Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
AIM: Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction. Also, assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code
Introduction: Vastu Shastra (or Vasthu or Vaastu) is one of the most ancient sciences of Indian architecture and is composed of specific rules, regulations, and directions, set down by sages of the Vedic times. For the modern society, it is the highly evolved, comprehensive building philosophy.
According to vastu, a building or premises is a living organism and can be designed in harmonic resonance with the underlying energy structure of the universe. Such a building or premises becomes a generator of coherence, attuning the occupants to the universal laws and increasing health, wealth and spiritual wellbeing. The most preferred direction of the house is east, north or northeast.
For any construction project (in this case buildings), construction documents, drawings, sketches and plans are needed for proper execution of the project. There can be plenty of different documents that make up your set. Different clients and buildings have different requirements. Even the scope of the budget for the project can change the drawing requirements of the project. However, certain conventions have become widely accepted. Following are the types of Drawings in a Typical Set of Construction Documents:
(a)Architectural Drawings
An architectural drawing is a technical drawing of a building (or building project) that is used by architects to develop a design idea into a coherent proposal, to communicate ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the merits of a design, to enable a building contractor to construct it, as a record of the completed work, and to make a record of a building that already exists.
The following are typical components found in a full set of Architectural Construction Drawings:

Values
Column size = 600 x600mm
beam size = 300 x300 mm
Slab size = 125mm
Wall height = 3
Column height =3.3
Calculation of loads
1)Column
L x bx h= 0.6mx0.6mx3m
Assume,
Self–weight of Concrete is around 2400 kg/m3
Self–weight of Steel is around 8000 kg/m3.
Volume of Concrete = 0.6mx0.6mx3m =1.08 kg
Weight of Concrete = 1.08 x 2400 = 2592 kg
Weight of Steel (1%) in Concrete = 1.08x 0.01 x 8000 = 86.4
Total Weight of Column = 2592 + 86.4 = 2678.4 = 26.8 kn
Total no of columns in house =15
Total load on columns = 26.8*15 =402kn/m
2)slab
The slab has a thickness of 125mm.
Slab area = 92.6mm*2
Slab volume = 92.6 x 0.125 =11.572m*3
Self–weight of Concrete is around 25 kg/m3
Total load = 11.572 x 25 =289.3kn/
No of slab = 2
Total = 2x 289kn/m =578.6 kn/m
3)Beam
Unit density of beam = 0.3 x0.3 x25 =2.25
B1=3.65m
B2=3.05 m
B3=3.04m
B4=1.89
For b1 length of beam = (3.65 -0.36) *3.375 = 11.10 *12=133.245kn/m
B2= (3.05 m -.36) *3.375=10.09*11=110.99kn/m
B3= (3.04m -0.36) *3.375=9.64*4= 38.56kn/m
B4=1.89-0.36*6=19.68kn/m
Total load of beams =323.56kn/m
total =1453.25kn/m
