Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Aim: To draw a G+1 floor residential plan according to vaastu shastra and the essential structural drawing needed to be provided to the site for construction.
Introduction:
Vastu Shastra
- Its ancient Indian science of architecture and act as a guideline to design your home in the way that enhances positive energy
- Our nature is abundant with power houses of energy sources like sun, wind, moon, water, earth and fire
- A good home needs to radiate the right kind of energy.A person dwelling in house comes under the influence of specific energy field wich comes under the influence of specific energy field
Basic pronciples of Vastu Shastra-
- Shape- Rooms should be preferably sqauree or rectangular
- Room basics- Rooms should be airy, bright and clean
- Home centre-Centre of the house should be empty space
- Stair & furniture- Heavy furniture should be kept in S-W direction
- Water-Avoid keeping Plants & water features in bedroom
- Dining table-It should be near the kitchen.
- Mirror placement- Mirror facing bed is strictly not allowed.
Calculation of loads on the structural member-
- Structural loads are forces applied to the structural components & are imp. considerations in the design and building
- Load causes stresses, deformation and displacements in the structure
- Assessment of these is carried out by structural analysis
- Excess load may cause structural failure
- Structural loads are split according to their originating cause into dead load and live load, particularly safety calculations
- To meet the requirements i.e. higher design strength than maximum loads, building codes prescribe that for structural design, loads are increased by load factors
- Indian codes and standards used for design:
- IS 456:2000 For rcc
- IS 875:1987(Part I) for dead load
- IS 875:1987(Part II) for live load
- IS 875:1987(Part III) for wind load
- IS 1893:2006 Part I, for seismic load
Procedure:
Project details:
- Project name:G+1 residential building
- Type of cement=OPC grade 43
- Reinforcement details: column size=300*300, beam size=300*450
- slab thickness=150mm
- External wall thickness=230mm
- Internal wall thickness=150mm
- All dimensions are meter
Load calculation:
1.Dead load calculations:
- Dimensions of the column=300*300
- Height of column= slab thickness*2+floor to floor height*2(G+1 structure)= 0.15*2+4*2=8.3m
- Unit weight of RCC =25kN/m^3
- Dead load of the column= unit weight * volume of column
=25*(8.3*0.3*0.3)
=18.675 kN/m^3
- Beam dimensions=300*450
- Consider length of the beam is 1 meter
- Dead load on the beam= unit weight * volume of beam
=25*(0.3*0.45*1)
=30375kN/m^3
- slab dimension=10m*14m
- Slab is always design for 1meter span hence size of slab=1*1
- Thichkness of slab=0.15m
- Total volume of concrete=1*1*0.15=0.15 m^3
- Dead load on the slab=Unit weight* volume of slab
=25*0.15
=3.75 kN/m^3
- Brickwork(load on wall), as thichkness of wall =0.23m
- Unit weight of brick =20kN/m^3
- Height of wall=4-0.45=3055m
- Dead load of the wall= 20*(0.23*3.55)=20.415 KN/m^3
2.LIVE LOAD CALCULATION:
Consider bedromm 1 for live load calculation
As per IS 875:1987(part 2), table 1, imposed load for bedroom =2KN/m^2
The area of the room=5*4=20 m^2
hence live load of the bed room= 2*20=40KN
- According to IS 875:1987(part 2), table 1,Imposed loads
- for bed room,living,washroom.kitchen=2KN/m^2
- for staircase,store room=3KN/m^2
3.Wind load calculation:
- According to IS 875:1987(part 3), wind load is calculated for building when height of building is more than 10m.
- Here height of building is 8m, hence calculation of wind load is not required.
