Simulink- Week-1 Challenge
Aim:
- To prepare a Simulink model for a given function.
- To run the ‘Spring System Comparison’ and compare the results.
Study 1: - To prepare a Simulink model for a given function.
Equation to be solved: - y(x) = (x-1) * (x-3)^2 * (x-9)^2

Questions:
Q. What is the objective of the simulation?
A simulation is an approximate imitation of the operation of a process or system that represents its operation over time.
Simulation can be used to show the eventual real effects of alternative conditions and courses of action. Simulation is also used when the real system cannot be engaged, because it may not be accessible, or it may be dangerous or unacceptable to engage, or it is being designed but not yet built, or it may simply not exist. Simulink is a MATLAB-based graphical programming environment for modelling, simulating and analysing multi-domain dynamical systems. Its primary interface is a graphical block diagramming tool and a customizable set of block libraries.
Simulink is a graphical modelling & simulation environment of dynamic system. One can create block diagrams, where blocks represents part of the system. A block can represent part of the system, a physical component, a small system or a function and the input/output system fully characterized the block.
Study 2: To run the ‘Spring System Comparison’ and compare the results.
Questions:
Q. What are the similarities and differences between the three systems understudy?
The suspension systems are designed to withstand high compression loads. To study the variations in position of different systems under same frequencies we have provide an oscillating velocity source. Here in this study we have compared 3 different spring systems:
- Shock Absorber
- Non Linear Spring
- Variable Spring
Shock Absorber: - It is a mechanical spring that absorbs any shock or impulse in an automobile.
Non Linear Spring: - In case of Non-Linear spring, the position of the spring does not change linearly with respect to the force applied.
Variable Spring: - In case of Variable spring, the pitch varies but the diameter of the spring remains unchanged.
Q. What are your observations from the results?
It has been observed that the change in position is constant in case of variable springs as compared to that of other two spring systems.

Q. How the oscillating velocity source is created?
Input Velocity:
In this Simulink block, the sine waves and pulse generators are combined together to produce an output. These waves are then added and transferred into go tag.
