Project

Finite Element Analysis of Sphere Pressing on a Plate(Shot Peening Process) using ANSYSWorkbench

Objective: To simulate a sphere pressing on a plate and experiencing plastic deformation on the plate

Geometry

The geometry is been imported , if you notice the geometry the model is quarter of original model since the whole body is symmetry we have cut down only the quarter model and meshed it , which in result in less number of mesh element and less computational time, by using symmetric option we can get the result of full body with the quarter model itself.

Materials

Structural steel is used for Sphere

Structural steel NL is used for the plate

Symmetric region

  • Left face is symmetric along z-aixs and right face is symmetric along x-axis

Contact region

  • Contact type :Frictional
  • Frictional co efficient :0.75

Mesh

  • Element sizez:1mm
  • Element type: default (both Tet and Hex is been used )

Analysis setting

Number of Time step: 4

Large deflection : on

Boundary Conditions

  • Displacement is given to the sphere for 4mm
  • Base of plate is been fixed

Post Processing

  • Directional deformation
  • Equivalent Elastic Strain
  • Equivalent von mises Stress
  • Equivalent Plastic Strain

Solution Output

Directional deformation(3.3859mm)

Equivalent Elastic Strain(0.016584)

Equivalent von mises Stress(3316.1MPa)

Equivalent Plastic Strain (1.7357)
