Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section modulus:
Section modulus is the ratio of min moment of inertia to the distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
By section modulus we can identify how much load can take.
S = I / Y
Here
S = Section modulus
I = moment of inertia
Y = the distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
SI Unit of Section Modulus is mm3
Using the Section from your Hood design and calculate the section modulus
This the Section from your Hood design

Case 1st

Here
I = Min moment of inertia = 5.560195294e+0.5(mm)
Y = the distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the hood = 243.02935
Calculating the section modulus (S)
S = I / Y
= 5.560195294e+0.5/243.02935
= 0.4595 mm3
the section modulus (S) is 0.4594 mm3
Case 2nd
Changing in depth of inner panel

After changing in depth, we got another MI
I = 5. 757773258e03
Y = 243.0935
To find S,
S = I/Y
= 5.757773258e03 / 243.0935
= 0.4758mm3
the section modulus (S) is 0.4758mm3
Conclusion:
After comparing Case 1st and 2nd we got to observe that as we change in depth of inner panel there is also change of moment of inertia so the section modulus also changes
As section modulus increases the strength of hood is increases
