Section Modulus calculation and optimization
AIM:
Use the Section from the Hood design and calculate the Section Modulus using the formula S = I/y
THEORY:
A section modulus is the value of moment of inertia of area related to the neutral axis of the cross section of a beam multiplied by the distance from the neutral axis to the outer surface
Section modulus is the ratio of bending to the farthest fiber from neutral axis, or it is the measure of the strength of the beam.
S = I/y
I = moment of inertia of the area
y = Distance from the neutral axis to the outer surface.
Case 1:

minimum moment of inertia, I = 1.369092071e+04 [mm^4]
distance between neutral axis and extreme end of object y = 440.7mm
Section modulus S = I/y
S= 1.369092071e+04 [mm^4] / 440.7 [mm]
S = 33.7787 [mm^3]
Case 2:
The distance between the outer panel and inner panel is increased by 2mm, the new moment of inertia is

minimum moment of inertia I = 1.478854728e+04 [mm^4]
distance between neutral axis and extreme end of object y = 440.7mm
Section modulus S = I/y
S = 35.9164 [mm^3]
Conclusion:
Increasing the cross-section area would give a better section modulus and helps in creasing the strength of hood
