Section Modulus calculation and optimization

SECTION MODULUS CALCULATION

Aim:

Use the Section from your Hood design and calculate the section modulus using the formula S = I/y

S = Section Modulus

I = Moment of Inertia

y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object

Come up with a new section that has improved the section modulus of the previous section and mention what change you made that has increased the strength.

Findings,

(Maximum) Moment of Inertia I = 8.455e+003 mm4

Distance Y = 244 mm

Section Modulus S = 8.455 e+003 / 244

S= 1155074.9 mm3.

(Minimum) Moment of Inertia I = 2.551e+003 mm4

Distance Y = 244 mm

Section Modulus S = 2.551 e+003 / 244

S= 1.469 mm3.

Conclusion.

Section modulus for the hood section has been determined.
