Design of backdoor

BACK DOOR/ TAILGATE DESIGN

AIM:

Design the Back door / Tailgate using the given input and use appropriate design methodologies and provide the necessary reinforcements and embosses.

MAJOR COMPONENTS OF BACKDOOR IN OUR ASSEMBLY:

  1. Upper Panel

  1. Lower Panel

  1. Inner Panel

.

  1. Gas stay Reinforcements

Gas stay is noting but a supporting rod used in cars to support doors like Hood, decklid etc.., example shown in the picture below.

The design of reinforcement (LH & RH)given below

  1. Hinge Reinforcements

Hinge joints are a type of joint that functions much like the hinge on a door, allowing bones to move in one direction back and forth with limited motion along other planes. ... Hinge joints are complex and contain many muscles and tissues. By using this the door was attached with the car body / Roof.

Example shown in picture below

The design of reinforcement (LH & RH) given below

  1. Latch Reinforcement

  1. Wiper motor Reinforcement

MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLING :

Usually these Inner / outer panels are made up of deep drawing sheets of thickness ranges from 0.6 to 0.8 mm. By using the corresponding reinforcement in required places then it will be joined as an assembly by using Welding, Sealing and Hemming operations.

TAILGATE ASSEMBLY:

HEMMING IN DESIGN:

FORCE DISTRIBUTION:

FORCE

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

This analysis is used to identifying the feasibilities of parts to be draft as required shape and size.

LOAD TESTS:

Different types of load tests are performed to test the doors capabilities and performances.

Some of the test are listed below,

  • Bend Test
  • Dent Test
  • Torsional Test
  • Endurance Test

CONCLUSION:

By considering all of the above said operations and tests the TAILGATE/BACK DOOR Assembly is made and fixed in the car.
