Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section Modulus:
Section Modulus is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of beams or flexural members, it is also referred to as the polar modulus or the torsional Section Modulus.
To Use the Section from your Hood design and calculate the section modulus using the formula S = I/y.
S = Section Modulus.
I = Moment of Inertia.
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.
Hood Design Study:

Moment of inertia(max) = 4.12856×10^7×mm^4
Moment of inertia(min) = 1.27977×10^4×mm^4
Y = 873.3759/2
Y= 436.687 mm.
S = I/Y
= 1.27977×10^4/436.687
= 0.00306116×10^4
S = 30.6116 mm.
Hood Design optimization:
Calculating inertia after offsetting the inner panel about 1mm.

Moment of inertia(max) = 4.6424×10^7×mm^4
Moment of inertia(min) = 1.37469×10^5×mm^4
Y = 873.3755/2
Y= 436.687 mm.
S = I/Y
= 1.37469×10^4/436.687
= 0.005825×10^4
S = 58.25 mm
Final Conclusion:
The difference can be seen at the moment of inertia and the change in the section modulus can be seen by the change in the design (depth).
