Section Modulus calculation and optimization

AIM

To calculate the Section modulus of the hood model

IMAGE 01:

  • Section modulus is the direct measure of the strength of the steel. Bending a steel section that has a larger section modulus than another will be stronger and harder to bend.
  • If two beams are made of the same material and comparing the “section modulus” of two beams, the beam with bigger section modulus will be tougher and more capable to withstand larger loads.

IMAGE 02:

SECTION MODULES 01

Z=I/Y

Z=2.319X10-6M^4/Y/2

Z=2.319X10-6M^4/886.212/2

Z=2.319X10-6M^4/443.106

Z=5233.51M^3

Increasing the 0.5mm gap in between the outer panel and the inner panel so getting increas in the section modulus,so resistant to bending will also be get increased due to this ,strength of the hood will increase.

SECTION MODULES 02

Z=I/Y

Z=2.418X10-6M^4/Y/2

Z=2.418X10-6M^4/886.212/2

Z=2.418X10-6M^4/443.106

Z=5456.93M^3

IMAGE 04

Since y value = 886.212/2

y= 443.106
