Section Modulus calculation and optimization

WHAT IS SECTION MODULE-

The section module is usually used in the calculation of stresses in cross section about an reference axis.

The formula for section Module is

S=I/Y

section module is calulated by mm^3

where,

s= section module

I=momentum od inertia(or Second momentum of inertia)

y=the distance from the neutral axis to the outside edge.

Different shape type of section module formula-

Hood momentum of inertia given by the cad(nx)-

MAX momentum of inertia=8.107573mm^4

MIN momentum of inertia=5.140475mm64

y=Total length/2

y=487.4/2=243.7

Section module for Max=8.107573*10^5/243.7

=3.326X10mm^3

section module for Min=5.140475*10^3/243.7

=21.09mm^3

Hood Design Optimization-

Increasing the Depth of the Inner panel by 0.50mm

MAX momentum of inertia=8.1171538mm^4

MIN momentum of inertia=5.34532mm64

y=Total length/2

y=487.4/2=243.7

Section module for Max=8.11715*10^5/243.7

=3.3307X10mm^3

section module for Min=5.34532*10^3/243.7

=21.934mm^3

After modification of the Depth momentum of inertia is changed
