Section Modulus calculation and optimization

SECTIONAL MODULUS: Due to the application of external force to how much extent the deformation of the body takes place. we are calculating the modulud at the some particular section is called section modulus.

In hood there are two types of crashes 1. frontal ceash 2. side crash

Hood has two fixed points at hinges. so, we consider it as simply supported beam, based on Euler Bernoulli Beam Theory equation

SECTIONAL MODULUS (S)=INERTIA(I)/DISTANCE FROM THE NEUTRAL AXIS(Y),

Y=d/2

INERTIA: Change of its original state due to the external force acting on it.

SECTIONAL MODULUS FOR FRONTAL CRASH

SECTION 1

SECTION 2

ITERATION 1 SECTION MODULUS (I/y) ITERATION 2 SECTION MODULUS (I/y)

DISTANCE (y)

M1 2.084*10^6mm 4763.37mm M1 2.299*10^6mm 5254.79mm 437.505mm
M2 7.264*10^8mm 1660323.88mm M2 7.885*10^6mm 1802265.117mm

SECTIONAL MODULUS FOR SIDE CRASH

SECTION 1

SECTION 2

ITERATION 1 SECTION MODULUS (I/y) ITERATION 2 SECTION MODULUS (I/y)

DISTANCE (y)

M1 8.838*10^5mm 3646.34mm M1 1.023*10^6mm 4220.64mm 242.38mm
M2 1.345*10^8mm 554913.77 M2 1.511*10^8mm 623401.27mm

conclusion:

In front crash when comparing with the two section modulus maximum S2=1660323.88 in iteration one and maximum S2=1802265.117 in iteration two. The section mudulus obtained in iteration two is maximum has more deformation at that particular section. so, it is the optimal.

In side crash when comparing with the two section modulus maximum S2=554913.77mm in iteration one and maximum S2=623401.27 in iteration two. The section mudulus obtained in iteration two is maximum has more deformation at that particular section. so, it is the optimal.
