AUTOMOBILE-ROOF
It is the most important feature of the automobile that covers the passengers from rain,wind,sun and
other external calamities.
There are different types of roofs used in automobile
1. Convertible roof module
2. Hard tops (for off roader)
3.T tops
4. Sun roofs
5.Targa tops
6. Vinyl roofs
To design a roof we need to consider the factors that needs to be covered such as Visibilty, Head clearance, Curvature study, Draft analysis, Heat distortion, Safety and Snow load criteria. Aluminium also used with steel structure in creating roof assembly.
Roof is the combined unit of as outer roof panel, Front roof rail, Bow roofs, Centre roof rail and Rear roof rail.
The roof crush test is conducted to evaluate the safety parameters of the roof by OEM's for occupant protection.
Design Works-
Extraction of styling surface,Modelling reinforcement parts & Analysis of roof.

After working on the styling surface with the requirements given, the roof assy is designed and checked for the parameters.

From the given criteria the bow roofs and roof assy are evaluated.

Conclusion:
The bow roofs are placed at correct intervals and are qualifued in the curvature study. The failing in the snow load criteria will be corrected by increasing the thickness of bow roofs to 1.2mm which will increase the moment of interia and also qualifies Qr values.Corrected Values- for example when increased to 1 mm thickness records Qr values of 4.5 for bow roof 1.
