Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht
AIM:
To model the sunseeker predator yacht using SolidWorks Software.
OBJECTIVE:
- Modeling of all the parts of a luxury yacht and assembling the parts of the same.
- Learn how to set up the blueprints for the modeling part.
- Understand the concept of hybrid modeling (i.e. surface modeling and solid modeling) in part model file.
Introduction
A Yacht is a boat specifically designed for accommodating passengers. Its superstructure incorporates rooms for guests, a dining area, a swimming pool as well as a garage for parking vehicles. A yacht consist of different type of structure which are are designed and manufactured individually and later get assembled to get final body. Key parts of a yacht are
- Hull
- Superstructure
- Radar Mast
- Propeller
- Front and Rear seats
In this project, the yacht was designed in SolidWorks 2018 as per the blueprint of yachts in various orientations. So the design approach is shown in the flowchart below
BLUEPRINT SETUP
In the beginning blueprints of the different orientations of yacht are provided. These blueprints were setup into suitable planes to get an all side view. This setup was used for tracing out the contours of the different parts.

INDIVIDUAL PART DESIGN
Each part is formed by tracing out the geometry provided in the blueprint. A brief introduction and design approach for each part is discussed in the sections below.
- The Hull of a boat is the most important structure. It is designed in a manner so that the boat can remain floating on the water. From a design point of view, it must be designed to reduce the water-induced drag for smooth sailing. materials used for manufacturing hull should be highly corrosion resistant. Hull incorporates an engine room, generators, and other controlling equipment.
Supersturcutre of a yacht is mounted on the hull structure. Superstructure incorpares different compartments containing amenities like bedroom, gym, kitchen, dining hall etc.
