Challenge

Project on Concrete Mix Design for various grades of Concrete

For M35 concrete with Flyash

Grade of Concrete : M35

Admixture : Fly Ash - Assume 30% replacement

Maximum Nominal Size of Aggregate : 20 mm

Workability 100 mm

Admixture : Super Plasticizer (Assume 0.6% of Cementisuious material) (Specific Gravity = 1.12)

Specific Gravity

Fly ash :2.9

Coarse Aggregate : 2.74

Fine Aggregate :2.74

Admixture : 1.12

Water Absorption

Coarse Agg. : 0.5%

Fine Agg. : 1%

Aggregates of Zone-II

Target Mean Strength

Ft = 35 + 1.65(5) = 43.25 N/mm^2

w/c = 0.4

Max water content = 186 L

For 100 mm slump

water = 186 +(0.06*186) = 197.2 L

20% reduction as per the code

hence water content = 197.2*0.8 = 158 L approximately

Cement + Fly Ash content = 158/0.4 = 395 kg

Fly ash content = 0.3* 395 = 118.5 kg (Take 118 kg)

Cement = 277 kg

Coarse aggregate = 0.62

for 0.4 w/c coarse aggregate = 0.64 (increase 0.01 for every decrease of w/c of 0.05)

Fine aggregate = 0.36

A. Volume of Concrete = 1 m^3

B. Vol. of Cement = 277/3150 = 0.088

C. Vol. of Fly ash = 118/2900 = 0.0406

D. Vol. of Superplasticizer = 2.37/1120 = 0.0021

E. Volume of Water = 158/1000 = 0.158

F. Total Aggregate required = A-(B+C+D+E) = 0.7113

Coarse Aggregate = 0.7113 * 0.64*2.74*1000 = 1247.33 Approx 1220 kg

Fine Aggregate = 0.7113 * 0.36*2.74*1000 = 701.6 kg approx 702 kg

Final Quantity

Cement = 277 kg

Flyash = 118 kg

Fine Aggregate = 702 kg

Coarse Aggregate = 1220 kg

Water = 158 L

Super Plasticizer = 2.37 L
