Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

Ans.1. Major elements in above automotive diagram

  • Battery
  • Starter
  • Ignition coil
  • Distributor
  • Breaker
  • Current & Voltage regulator
  • Foot selector switch
  • Juction block
  • Ignition Switch
  • Parking lamp
  • Scaled beam
  • Horn
  • Fuse
  • Tail Stop
  • Plate light

Ans.2. Working of elements

Battery:-

  • Purpose - To store & supply electric energy to differnent components of a vehicle. It supply electricity to electronic components of vehicle such as lights, music player, etc.
  • Working - It converts chemical energy to electric energy.

Fuse :-

  • Purpose - To prevent overloading of current & in a circuit
  • Working - When a current in a circuit reaches beyond it limit, the fuse break & makes the circuit open & flow of current stops.

Current & Voltage Regulator:-

  • Purpose - It maintains a constant current & voltage flow despite of voltage fluctuations in a circuit
  • Working - It keeps the voltage from a power supply within a range that is compatible with the electrical components in a vehicle.

Ans.3. I = 10A

Fuse Rating should be 25 % higher than th maximum load of a battery

  • Fuse Rating = I + (I x 0.25)

= 10 + 2

  • Fuse Rating = 12 A

Ans.4. P = 500W

Lets assume battery voltage of 24 V

I = P/V

= 500/24

=20.83 A

A fully charged vehicle battery must last atleast upto 8 hrs

Therefore,

  • Ah = I x t
    • 20.83 x 8
  • Ah = 166.66 Ah
  • No battery is 100% effecient
  • So I recommened battery of min 170Ah in above condition

Ans.5. Elements connected in parallel are

  1. Horn - Parallel connection of horn helps in maintaining sound frequency of horn
  2. Lights - Parallel connection of lights in automobile are done to ensure one light always remains on while driving if other gets damaged.

Ans.6. Battery & Ammeter are connected in series.

Ammeter is a low resistive device. If we connect it in parallel it may get damaged and stop working
