Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

1.

The Major elements in the above Automotive Wiring Diagram

  • Battery
  • Generator
  • Starter
  • Current and voltage Regulator
  • Ignition coil
  • Ignition Switch
  • Distributor
  • Breaker
  • Fuse
  • Junction Block
  • Foot Selector switch
  • Ammeter
  • Fuel Guage

2.

  1. Battery

It is a device thet stores chemical energyand converts it to Electrical Energy

Types

Lead acid, Nickel Cadmium, Lithium ion, Zinc carbon, Magnesium, etc.

Purpose

The main purpose is to store Electrical energy in the form of chemical energy and supply to the system whenever its needeed.

working

It works on the Oxidation and Reduction Reaction.

It cosists of Three main elements Anode,Cathode and an Electrolyte. When Electrons Flows through it. the reaction happens and stores the energy as chemical energy and converts to electrical energy and supplies to system

2. Generator

It Converts Mechanical Energy into Electrical Energy

Purpose

Main Purpose of Generator is to Generate Electrical Energy and store in the battery for Backup.

Working

It works on the Principle of Electromagnetic Induction. When Armature Rotate with the help of Rotating shaft of engine or Rotating input. EMF is generated Between Magnetic coil and armature. It results in Generating the Electrical Energy.

3. Fuse

It is a safety Device Provides Overcurrent Protection to the Electric Circuit

Purpose

The Main purpose is to protect electrical circuit from the effects of Excessive currents.

Working

When the Unusual current or over rated current flows through the circuit.then the Temperature of Fuse increase and the metal wire present in the fuse gets melted and Breaks the circuit,thus the damage is controlled.

3.

Total Load from Battery = 10A

For this circuit Fuse rating should be greater than total load

therefore fuse rating can be taken 12A

4.

Load P = 500W

Voltage V = 12v

Battery capacity Ah = ?

E = V x Q

E= Energy Wh, V= Voltage v , Q= Battery capacity Ah

Q = E/V

Q = 500 x 1/12

Q = 41.6 Wh

For the given load 41.6 Ah Battery is Recommended.

5.

The elements connected in parallel are

  • Tail stop lights
  • Sealed Beam Lights

Tailstops lights circuit is in parallel in order to glow when switch is on and also when Brake is applied

Sealed Beams

If they are connected in series If one side fails other side also fails so, it is connected in Parallel and also it is used in different modes like high beam, low beam and dipper.

6.

The elements Connected in Series

Ammeter

The resistance is very low and it is used to measure current so, it is connected in series

Fuse

It is connected in series to be protected from unusual or over rated current
