Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit
1. Major elements
- Starter
- Battery
- Generator
- Current and voltage regulator
- Switch
- Distributor
- Breaker
- Ignition coil
- Foot selector switch
- Ammeter
- Fuse
2. Purpose and working of three elements:
STATOR;
The starter motor is responsible for turning the engine over during ignition and allowing everything else to happen. When you turn the ignition on, the starter motor engages and turns the engine over allowing it to suck in air.
GENERATOR;
They convert mechanical or chemical energy into electrical energy. An electric generator is a device which is used to produce electric energy. Which can be stored in batteries or can be directly supplied to the homes, shops, offices,etc. Electric generators work on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
DISTRIBUTOR;
A distributor sells products directly to consumers and fulfills orders for retailers. They can perform customer service duties like answering customer question and handling product returns.
3. Load = 10 A
Power = Current x Voltage
[ for typical car battery voltage is 12V]
P = 12 X 10 = 120Watt
Fuse rating is 25% more than actual power rating
Power for fuse rating = 120 x 1.25 = 150 Watt
- I = P/V = 150/12 = 12.5 A
4. [ For recommended voltage is 12V]
500 = 12 X current
current = 500/ 12 = 41.67 A
capacity = current x time
capacity = 41.67 x 1 Hr = 41.67 Ah
Recommended capacity is 41.67 Ah
5. Generator
Current and voltage regulator
As per the above image Generator with current voltage and regulator are connected in parallel. if two are more components in parallel they have the same differential of potential voltage across the end.
6. Battery:
Connected in series with high voltage to improve the drivability and energy efficiency.
STARTER:
Starter connected in series with battery because same current flows through them.
