Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit
1.ans.
The major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram are:
Battery, Starter, Ignition coil, Breaker, Distributor, Generator, Current and Voltage regulator, Foot selector switch, Fuse, Junction block, Gas tank unit.
2.ans.
The purpose and working of any 3 of the above elements are
i)Battery
A battery stores electrical energy in the form of chemicals, it is the heart of the system which supplies power to the various components of the EV circuit.
A battery mainly consists of electrodes (cathode and anode) and an electrolyte, where the anode acts as a reducing agent and the cathode act as the oxidizing agent when in contact with the electrolyte. when this battery is connected to the circuit due to the potential difference between these electrodes current is forced to flow through the circuit.
- ii) Generator
A generator generates current and recharges the battery using the traction force while braking. It converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Generators are motors working in a reverse direction, when a conductor moves in a magnetic field and emf is induced in the conductor this can be directed to create a flow of current. This can also be called electromagnetic induction.
iii) Ignition coil
An Ignition coil is used to produce a spark and initiate the ignition of the fuel. This helps in the propulsion of the hybrid electric vehicle.
Ignition coil converts the battery voltage into very high voltages required to produce a spark when passed through a spark plug.
3.ans,
Given load =10A
wkt fuse ratiing > given load
fuse rating > 10A
for a given load fuse rating should be 125-135% of the load
I=10*1.35=13.5A
Since the standard rating of fuse is 12A, 15A…
The fuse rating should be 15A
4.ans.
Given P=500w, V=12V
P=V*I
500=12*I
I=500/12=41.67A
since, battery capacity=current*time (per hour)
battery capacity=41.67*1=41.67Ah
thus, the recommended battery capacity =41.67Ah
5.ans.
Elements that are connected in parallel with each other
i)foot selector switch and current & voltage regulator
ii)lighting circuit and horn circuit
since both the elements are connected in parallel both the elements will have the same voltage across their ends.
6.ans.
Elements that are connected in series with each other
i)battery and starter
ii)corresponding elements in lighting circuit and horn circuit.
since both, elements will be receiving the same current throughout their function.
