Thus, the COVID-19 pandemic has driven the growth of this market, as the increase in COVID-19 cases lead to the increase in testing of COVID-19 samples, also with the development of vaccines by various companies led to the rapid immunization thereby disposable syringe practices were adopted, to avoid contamination and spread of the virus, thereby driven the market.

The main driving factors for this market are increasing activities by various NGOs that create awareness for the use of disposable syringes, the need to control the spread of diseases like HIV, and the rising demand for disposable syringes. The safe use of disposable syringes is important to avoid contamination. For instance, in 2021 United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) gave guidelines to create awareness of the use of disposable syringes. The guideline reported that used needles should be immediately placed in a needle’s disposal container. United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)-cleared needles containers are generally available through pharmacies, medical supply companies, health care providers, and online. These containers are made of puncture-resistant plastic with leak-resistant sides and a bottom. They also have a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid. Thus, such awareness and safe syringe practices are driving the market.

Another such driving factor is the need to control the spread of diseases like HIV. One of the reasons for the high prevalence of HIV is the unsafe syringe disposal practice. Safe injection practices ensure to the prevention, contamination, and transmission of HIV, thereby driving the market. For instance, in 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) reported that globally 38.4 million people globally are living with HIV. Thus, one approach to prevent the spread of this disease is ensuring the use of disposable syringes. To prevent the spread of contaminated diseases like COVID-19, HIV, and Hepatitis it is essential to adopt disposable syringe practices.

Thus, due to the above-mentioned reasons, the market is expected to show a significant over the forecast period. However, due to the comparatively high one-time cost, stringent government regulations may slow the growth of the market.

Safety Syringes is the Segment by Type Expected to Witness Fastest Growth over the Forecast Period (2022-2027).

A safety syringe is a syringe with a built-in safety mechanism to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries to healthcare workers and others. The needle on a safety syringe can be detachable or permanently attached. Safety syringes are well established and available in global markets and are major factors driving the growth of the market's rising focus on reducing needlestick injuries. The safety syringes can be segmented into retractable safety syringes and non-retractable safety syringes. A safety syringe is equipped with a sheath that automatically extends over the needle of the syringe after the syringe has been used to administer the injection.

The increasing demand for injectable formulations owing to the development of self-injection devices and long-acting formulations along with lower adverse effects and high efficacy and favorable reimbursement policies are the main reasons to drive this market. The unsafe injection practices, put healthcare workers, patients, and the community at fatal risk. The most frequently transmitted diseases through unsafe injection practices are Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS. Unsafe injections can also lead to abscesses, septicemia nerve damage, and hemorrhagic fevers. The rise in the concerns regarding needle stick injuries to both patients and healthcare professionals acts as one of the major factors driving the growth of the safety syringes market. For instance, in January 2021 Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd launched Dispojekt Safety Needle to prevent injuries needle-stick injuries. These recent developments by the pharmaceutical companies are like to ensure safe injection practices, by minimizing the chances of contamination. The surge in the investments in surgical instruments by the hospitals and government initiatives to incorporate the use of safety syringes in the legislation for declining needle stick injuries and preventing needle re-use further influenced the market. North America is Expected to Dominate the Disposable Syringe Market

North America is expected to dominate the market owing to factors such as the easy availability of technologically advanced products, well-established healthcare infrastructure, and a strong network of suppliers.

According to International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in the 2021 report, the North America and Caribbean Region has the second highest diabetes prevalence (14%) of all IDF Regions. IDF projects that the number of people with diabetes in the NAC Region will increase 24%, reaching 63 million by 2045. International Diabetes Federation (IDF) also reported that 361 million living in the North American region were living with diabetes and this number is expected to increase by 413 million by 2045. This region has the second highest number of children and adolescents with type-1 diabetes 193,000 in total. The North American region reported the second highest mortality due to diabetes (931,000) and the second highest percentage (18,4%) of diabetes-related deaths in people of working age among the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Regions. This region has the highest diabetes-related expenditure (USD 415 billion) associated with diabetes which accounts for 43% of global expenditure. The daily uptake of insulin, for people with Type-1 diabetes, is an important glucose management technique. Millions of people have diabetes and the most common method for insulin delivery in the United States is injection with the help of a syringe.

Furthermore, there is a high prevalence of chronic diseases like HIV in the United States which is also driving the market to grow in the region. Apart from the sexual transmission the virus also gets transmitted by using contaminated syringes. Another reason for the high cases of HIV in this region is also the unsafe syringe practices. Reuse and improper disposal of needles and syringes are increasing HIV cases in the area. The first plastic syringes were created in the 1950s. However, it was not until the 1960s that plastic syringes began to replace glass syringes. The main reason for this change was that plastic syringes were less likely to break than glass syringes. Additionally, plastic syringes were less likely to cause infection than glass syringes.

A syringe is a small pump with a plunger attached to a cylindrical tube. syrinx, which means tube, is the root of the word syringe. During the first century BC, the Roman Empire made the first use of syringes. In 1650, Blaise Pascal developed a syringe to apply fluid mechanics to objects. In the medical and health fields, the syringe is one of the most common tools. It’s difficult to imagine a medical device more commonplace and yet so useful than the plastic disposable syringe. Phil Brooks, an African American inventor, invented the disposable syringe in 1974.

Prior to plastic, an older generation of nurses delivered medication using only glass syringes from the late 40s to the early 50s, and were skilled at measuring and ensuring proper cleaning and sanitizing of their instruments.

When Chance Brothers glassworks of England first invented glass syringes with interchangeable parts, they were able to achieve sterility in large quantities. Disposable, single-use, pre-sterilized, syringes, and needles, which we use today, were not widely available until 1953.

Glass, plastic, and stainless steel are the most commonly used materials for syringes. Most commonly used glass syringes are microliters, which are ideal for oxygen sensitive samples and have low volume errors.

  • Brands are constantly trying to survive the apparent competition in every sector. While it all comes down to the types of services and products that are offered, how they package themselves to consumers also comes into play. Most, however, often struggle with communicating their offerings to consumers. And this can be communicated via a value proposition and a mission statement. But what is the variance between the two? Let’s see below.

  • What is Value proposition?

This is a declaration that communicates the value of a product to customers and why they should purchase the said item. Value propositions summarize how brands will deliver their promise and value that all the consumers will benefit from it. Value propositions show why a brand is unique and the best in the market.

Efficient value propositions are neither indirect, vague nor convey exaggerating promises. They are also keen on the level of competition in the sector and aim to stand out.

Here are 4 questions that value propositions aim to answer.

    • WHAT- What problem can the product or service solve for the customer?
    • HOW- How does the brand aim to solve the problem?
    • WHO- Which group of customers have this problem?
    • WHY- Why should a customer get the problem solved by the brand?

Value proposition also includes the consumers’ touchpoint with the brand, from the point of purchase, experience with the product and the price paid for the product.

    What is Mission statement?

A mission statement explains a brand’s purpose for being, in concise and simple terms. They should be clear and catchy. As such, they are generally short and are often a short paragraph or a single sentence.

Mission statements define a company’s value, culture, goals, ethics and agenda. It is significant to all players including employees, investors, suppliers, distributors, shareholders and the entire community.

The mission statement reveals 3 things:

    • What a company does- This could be a service or a product, and it is what makes the business run
    • How the company undertakes its work- This should be described in a non-technical way, such that any person can understand.
    • Why a company engages in said work- This helps a brand stand out from others. It should be catchy and ethical.

Mission statements can sell or ruin a company. As such, some brands go all the way to pay handsomely for a mission statement to be developed. Contrary to what most people think, mission statements are for small & large corporations, professionals, individuals and investors.

imilarities between Value proposition and Mission statement

    • Both improve the marketability of a brand by making it more appealing to the consumers

Differences between Value proposition and Mission statement

    Definition

A value proposition is a declaration that communicates the value of a product to customers and why they should purchase the said item. On the other hand, a mission statement is a phrase that explains a brand’s purpose for being, in concise and simple terms.

    Importance

Value propositions show why a brand is unique and the best among the competitors. On the other hand, mission statements define a company’s value, culture, goals, ethics and agenda.

    Components

    Disposable Syringes Market Scope

In general, a syringe is an instrument used to insert or extract a solution from a larger body. It is usually operated by a piston pump system, which is the main method of medical treatment of patients by doctors or nurses. The main difference between a normal syringe and the disposable syringe is that disposable syringes are intended for single use and are then usually thrown away in contaminated devices. Disposable syringes allow doctors to use the item once and then discard it, so that it does not cause contamination and can speed up medical care. In addition, it is very safe and also avoids sterilization because sterilization of the syringe is no longer left to the doctor or to medical staff, but since the syringes are disposable they are discarded and are no longer needed. Disposable syringes are commonly used in modern medicine to inject drugs and vaccines or to draw blood. They are also used to inject insulin to diabetics because diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world and requires regular insulin injections to control blood sugar levels in the body.

You need few different specification in plant layout in manufacturing of disposable syringe. Disposable syringe is manufactured with plastic material and has to make them sterilized, so you require machinery according to it. Disposable syringes are mostly injection molded from polypropylene. Syringes are available in different sizes like 1 ml, 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml, 50ml. To manufacture variety of designs, the number and size of injection moulding machine should be fixed as per need.

Production of disposable syringe requires following steps:

    • Raw Material
    • Moulding machine
    • Automatic Sterilization Plant

Raw material used is polypropylene. This is fed into special moulding machine and special moulds. Then moulded it in chilled conditioned to get better clarity. When it has been converted into disposable syringe. It is sent into sterilization plant where it is being sterilized by using ethylene oxide. Disposable syringe is then assembled with sterilized needle. This process is totally sterilized to prevent any contamination because it is ready to use disposable syringe.

Needles could be out sourced. Then complete syringe is packed in blister by using blister packing machine This is simple process to manufacture disposable syringes. But you have to get manufacturing license from drug control department. If you don’t have idea about syringe manufacturing, you should visit any existing plant that are manufacturing disposal syringe in India. That is very good to understand the process. Visiting local drug control office will also be beneficial for you to understand documentation and formalities. Adequate space is required for starting manufacturing.

Manufacturing Process and Source of Technology of Disposable Syringe

Step 1.

The cylinder and pistons are produced by injection molding machines. They are fed by individual granule feeding systems in different parts to be molded. This determines the relevant types and Quantities of raw material to be supplied by the feeding lines. Clamping force, Temperature, Dosing and injection pressure of raw material, and clamping time of the machine are automatically controlled so that disturbance or faults in production should occur very rarely and wastes are kept at the lowest possible rate.

Step 2.

The Scrapes are then separated from the molded parts, which are then transported, to a control channel. A conveyor belt situated below the machine removes the scrapes. For shrinking to their required dimensions. The molded parts are packed into plastic containers or bags and are deposited in an air-conditioned interim storage room for at least one or two days.

Step 3.

After the shrinking is completed, the scales and the product logo are printed on the syringe cylinders by a semi-automatic embossing machine. The feeding is performed manually while printing and discharging are done automatically. The cylinders and the pistons are conveyed to the assembling by means of vibrating feeders. The piston is automatically fitted into the cylinder and is immediately tested for tightness.

Step 4.

The complete syringe is placed by hand into the deep drawing cavities of the blister packing machine for sealing up the single units automatically with the plastic foil. Between 50-250 sealed units (according to delivery demands) are packed into a cardboard box by hand. The boxes are closed, labeled, and subsequently pelletized. After in-process storage over a few days, sterilization is carried out. The autoclave sterilization with ethylene oxide allows the previous packing of the final products ready to be delivered ex-works.

Step 5.

Therefore the cardboard boxes can be placed into the autoclave on pallets but only after being stored under normal conditions for two to three days in order to insured the sterilization effect. This minimum period is a presupposition for the bacteria to reach with the blister foil a certain to reach within the blister foil a certain degree of growth necessary for rendering them innocuous. It is recommended to design the autoclave chamber for one daily production in order to minimize quality controls because bacteriological tests are done batch-wise.

Step 6.

Due to the fact that ethylene oxide is inflammable, the sterilization equipment must be explosion-proof and installed in a separate room. Sterilization of one batch takes about 8 hours. Syringe shall be manufactured in accordance with recognized codes of good manufacturing practice for medical devices and shall be substantially free from defects affecting appearance, safety, and serviceability for the intended use.

2>

Disposable Syringe is an instrument which is used for injecting any liquid into the body of human beings or of animals. It consists of a cylinder and an air tight piston. These syringes are used for injecting the medicine into the body or into the nerve of the body which are not possible to take in through mouth or takes much time in mixing with blood. These syringes are available in sizes varying from 2 C.C. to 100 C.C. Most popular and commonly used sizes are 2 C.C., and 5 C.C. Other sizes are also frequently used but upto lesser extent. In this project, we are manufacturing the disposable syringes with the sizes are 3 ml, 5 ml, 10 ml. 20 ml. and 50 ml.  Previously glass was used for making these syringes; the most commonly used glass is Pyrex glass. This glass is shock-resistant, temperature-resistant and has low thermal co-efficient of expansion. But with the development of plastic technology, this glass has been substituted by high grade plastics. Plastic can be used in place of glass for making syringes without any problem. Plastic syringes are becoming more popular in the medical world due to its lower cost and higher accuracy. To test the efficiency of a syringe, close the tip with a finger and attempt to withdraw the plunger or piston. If the plunger and barrel fit perfectly, the vacuum created in the cylinder will prevent withdrawal of the plunger. The plunger should not be pulled to return rapidly due to the vacuum created or the barrel may be cracked. With the development of pharmaceutical industries the use of syringes has also developed. About 70% pharmaceutical industries are in small scale sector. The output of the small scale sector covers a wide spectrum of formulations, which includes antibiotics vitamins, anti T.B. drugs, antidysentery drugs, anti-rheumatics, haematinies, hormonal preparations, tranquilizers, analgesics and anti-phyreties. Indeed this is a very wider range of product mix. About 50 percent of the above listed drugs are injectable and for that purpose syringes are required. Disposable Syringes are being used by doctors to inject medicines through intravenous or intramuscular ways for the treatment of diseases & also by research & development personnel. Disposable syringes are made of plastic material and are used in the field of medical and veterinary science. Due to their availability in sterilized condition, ready to use, and cost effectiveness, disposable syringes are fast replacing the age-old glass syringes. Moreover, the horror of AIDS worldwide has almost dispensed with the reuse of syringes and the demand of disposable syringes has increased phenomenally. Disposable syringes are mostly injection moulded from polypropylene. Syringes are available in sizes of 1 ml, 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml, 50ml in a variety of designs and consist of either two or three components construction. The number and size of injection moulding machines required depend upon syringe construction, number of mould cavities, annual production. Disposable Syringes made of plastic Material have been successfully used in medical and pharmaceutical practice for many years. The constantly increasing use of this type Syringe indicates its importance. Which is based mainly on the advantages it offers regarding cost and hygienic applications. The manufacture of plastic syringes has been developed to such a degree that the products now satisfy the requirements and standards set by Hospital and physicians. At the same time they offer the best possible technique of application to the physician and the highest possible degree of safety to the patient.

Disposable Plastic Syringes are being used by doctors to inject medicines through Intravenous or intramuscular ways for the treatment of diseases & also by research & development personnel. Disposable syringes are made of plastic material and are used in the field of medical and veterinary science. Due to their availability in sterilized condition, ready to use, and cost effectiveness, disposable syringes are fast replacing the age old glass syringes. Moreover, the horror of AIDS worldwide has almost dispensed with the reuse of syringes and the demand of disposable syringes has increased phenomenally. Disposable syringes are mostly injection moulded from polypropylene. Syringes are available in sizes of 1 ml, 2 ml, 5ml and 10ml, 50ml in a variety of designs and consist of either two or three components construction. The number and size of injection moulding machines required depend upon syringe construction, number of mould cavities, annual production. These are made of plastic material have been successfully used in the medical and Pharmaceutical Practice for many years The constantly increasing use of this type syringe Indicates its importance which is based mainly on the advantages it offers regarding cost and hygienic applications. The manufacture of plastic syringes has been developed to such a degree that the products now satisfy the requirements and standards set by the hospitals and physicians. At the same time they offer the best possible technique of applications to the physician and highest possible degree of safety to the patient. Disposable needle is widely used by doctors for injection purpose with the help of syringes. With the increase in population in our country, requirement of medicine and injections has increased. For more strength of people more number of needles are required with syringes. Tablets or capsules also pay a great role in the life of human beings but injections are also a must to some extent. For quick relief, needles are used by surgeons, dental surgeons, Veterinary Surgeons and by the breeders in the poultry farm, where the farm birds are periodically injected against epidemics. During epidemics for better control, disposable needles are of much use. Veterinary Surgeons and doctors find it more useful to use needles as tablets or syrup shall not be helpful. To avoid wastage and to reduce cost by quantity of syrup, needles find a wide scope with the veterinary surgeons/doctors. With the development of pharmaceutical industries the use of syringes and disposable needles will also develop. About 70% pharmaceutical industries are in small scale sector. The output of small scale sector covers a wide spectrum, anti T.B. Drugs, ant dysentery drugs, unit rhenemsties, haematirines, hormonal preparations, tranquilizers, analagesties and anti-Ryrities. Disposable needles are becoming more popular in the medical world due to its lower cost and higher accuracy. Plastic can be used in place of metal without any problem. The procedure is also relatively easy and cheaper. Only one disadvantage is that there is not so much heat resistance as compared to hypodermic needle. Even then the disposable needle has widely replaced hypodermic needle because of lower cost, easy compatibility and higher sterilizations. Whenever a suture is required to close a wound. needles to arm the suture material are necessary. The number of sizes and the variety of different shapes of needles run into many thousands. The range supplied by manufacturers is usually classified into types for specific surgery, as for example. arterial. general purpose. intestinal. obstetric ophthalmic. plastic. retention. Shapes are designated as straight, curved, 1/2 circle, 5/8 circle etc. and the sections as round bodied, triangular cutting edge, triangular reverse cutting point, tracer point. In addition the length of the needle from point to hilt is specified in millimeters and the hilts are designed to take the various diameters of suture material employed. Needles are chosen by the surgeon to suit his operating technique and it is largely because of the surgeons interest in improving suture efficiency that the development of surgical needles has taken place. In very many cases the surgeon himself has caused needles to be made to his own design and a large number of commonly used needles are referred to by the name of the inventing surgeon. Surgical needles are of two types : those which have an eye through which the suture is threaded and eyeless needles where the suture is inserted into the hollow hilt and held in position by swaging the metal around it. The first patent on an eyeless needle was obtained by the late Sir Henry Souttar in 1921. but in the U.K. their use has only increased appreciably in the past few years. In the U.S.A. 70 percent of the suture needles are of the cycle’s type. The needles themselves are made either of stainless steel or of carbon steel, the latter usually being plated to resist corrosion. At one time the carbon steel needle had a better resistance to bending than its counterpart in stainless steel but recent technological advance hare is proved stainless steel needles and they now compete in strength with carbon steel and have added advantage that they will not corrode and do not present the surgeon with the dreaded emergency of having to locate and extract the broken point of a needle embedded somewhere in the tissues of an unfortunate patient.

Safety syringe is a syringe which has safety features. It is designed to overcome two main problems of using a normal syringe. First is to reduce the use of syringe which may lead to cross-infection of disease and the second is to avoid needle stick and sharp injuries. The need of single-use safety syringe arise due to these concerns. There are a lot of patents found in modern application today. Although many single-use safety syringes have achieved public acceptance and commercial success in the marketplace, many single-use syringes present a variety of problems. To begin with, it is found that some syringes which claim to be "single-use" in actuality can be reused with user intervention. Some syringes are designated as "single-use" solely because they are supposed to be discarded after use by following their instruction; however, nothing prevents their reuse. Some syringe designs expose the drug or bodily fluid contained therein to reactive components of the syringe, e.g. a spring used to retract the plunger. Moreover, some syringes, although cannot be reused, present health risks to the medical personnel handling them. In addition, there are some factors which may need to be considered such as their complex design, and high cost of contemporary components. According to a market survey in Malaysia, safety syringe has to maintain the same procedure to operate as the normal syringe. Eventhough there are a variety of safety syringes available in the market, they do not fulfill the basic requirements of the medical practices. Due to this concern, a new design improvement of safety syringe is proposed to enhance the design of an existing safety syringe. The objectives of this research are to develop the design of safety syringe, to fabricate the prototype of safety syringe and to test the functionality of the prototype safety syringe. The research starts by identifying the needs and goals. This includes recognizing the client needs, modifying existing product, defining the method to achieve the goals, and clarifying the objectives. Then it proceeds to the next processes which are concept generation, synthesis, and analysis. For these processes, the focus includes the morphological chart, product component decomposition diagram, and combining idea concept. Next stage is the preliminary design which includes the product geometry design, configuration design, and parametric design. And after that comes the detail design which consists of drawing development and modelling. The product can only proceed to this stage if the preliminary design satisfies all of the objectives, otherwise the design process will go back to the original concept which are the generation stage, synthesis, and analysis until the design meets the requirements. Then the design can move to the next stage, which is prototype development. The design product is also analysed by using engineering software such as SOLIDWORKS before fabricating a new prototype. The experimental test is carried out in order to validate the prototype. The result of this study is a new design of safety syringe which meets the main characteristics as stated before. The newly designed system will allow the user to use it single-handedly and easy to be disabled after use.

Re-use of injection equipment to administer injections to more than one patient, including reintroduction of injection equipment into multi-dose vials, re-use of syringe barrels or of the whole syringe, informal cleaning with re-use and other practices. These practices are often ingrained and believed to be safe, but in reality they lead to the transmission of bloodborne viruses such as HIV, HBV, and HCV, as well as bacterial infections and abscesses at the injection site. In 2000, at the start of the WHO Injection Safety Programme and of the Safe Injection Global Network (SIGN), WHO estimated that 40% of the 16 billion injections were given with re-used injection equipment, leading to 21 million new HBV cases (32% of all new cases), 2 million new HCV cases (40% of all new cases) and around 260 000 HIV cases (5% of all new HIV cases)(2). Other diseases can also be transmitted through the re-use of injection equipment e.g. viral haemorrhagic fevers, such as Ebola and Marburg. 2. Accidental needle-stick injuries (NSIs) in health care workers (HCWs) which occur while giving an injection or after the injection, including handling infected sharps before and after disposal. Certain practices considered high risk for HCWs, such as recapping contaminated needles, are associated with NSIs and have frequently been observed during surveys on injection practices using WHO’s Injection Safety Assessment Tool C (http://www.who.int/injection_safety/ toolbox/techtools/en/). In 2003, WHO published the burden of diseases from NSIs in HCWs which showed that there were 3 million accidental needle-stick injuries leading to 37% of all new HBV cases in HCWs, 39% of new HCV cases and around 5.5% of new HIV cases (3). 3. Over-use of injections for health conditions where oral formulations are available and recommended as the first line treatment. Demand for and prescriptions of injectable medicines that are inappropriate include overuse of antibiotics, use of unnecessary injectable products such as certain vitamins, moving directly to second-line injectable treatments and others. Some of these issues are addressed through other WHO interventions to promote a rational and responsible use of medicines, and specific initiatives to combat overuse of antibiotics. Such initiatives use information and communication campaigns to target both HCWs and communities to decrease inappropriate demands for medicines, including injectable medicines. Similarly and in support of the guidance in this document, WHO will embark on an injection safety global campaign targeting both HCWs and communities as a means of decreasing demand for and over-prescription of injections. WHO guideline on the use of safety-engineered syringes in health care settings 8 Executive summary 4. Unsafe sharps waste management putting HCWs, waste management workers and the community at large at risk of needle-stick injuries and subsequent bloodborne infections. Unsafe management of sharps waste includes incomplete incineration, disposal in open pits or dumping sites, leaving used injection equipment in hospital laundry and other practices that fail to secure infected sharps waste. In some cases, used injection equipment is removed from open waste pits by people who scavenge through waste and then wash, repackage and resell the equipment as new. These issues will be covered by the recommendations made in this document to procure sufficient safety boxes for the containment of all safety-engineered devices, as well as through the global injection safety campaign to implement and adapt the recommendations to each country context. RUP and SIP syringes, especially in curative services, are the focus of the recommendations contained in this document, along with the provision of sharps waste management equipment. As above, reducing inappropriate demand will be addressed separately through other WHO initiatives. As part of a comprehensive package of interventions to ensure safe and rational use of injections – including communication and behaviour change strategies, supportive policies and provision of sufficient quantities of the appropriate injection equipment – WHO has analysed the potential contribution of safety-engineered syringes in reducing the problem of re-use and preventing needle-stick injuries. Safety syringes are well established and available in global markets. Official performance requirements and definitions have been added and developed over time, beginning with AD syringes for immunization in 1990 and progressing to models with re-use prevention in 2006 and sharps injury protection features in 2012. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has well defined requirements for producers of these products related to performance and fitness for purpose of safety syringes. This document references safety syringes according to their ISO definition to provide an exact definition of the safety mechanism of each type of syringe and allow a common understanding between all guideline readers. The ISO definitions also provide guidance for procurers in determining the specifications and minimum standards for performance of safety-engineered devices for the selection of appropriate devices. The three main ISO definitions are below, along with additional clarifying descriptions. • ISO 7886 – Part 3: “sterile hypodermic syringes for single use – Part 3: autodisable syringes for fixed-dose immunization (AD).” This definition includes syringes that deliver fixed doses, most have non-removable needles and all have a feature that blocks the syringe from being used a second time. This definition is limited to equipment for immunization services, and are typically 0.1 – 0.5 and 1.0 ml in size. WHO guideline on the use of safety-engineered syringes in health care settings 9 Executive summary • ISO 7886 – Part 4: “sterile hypodermic syringes for single use with a re-use prevention feature (RUP).” This definition includes syringes that can measure flexible dosing amounts, have removable needles and a feature that blocks the syringe from being used a second time. The RUP feature is activated following a single aspiration and injection in RUP syringes Type A while in syringes Type B the mechanism allows multiple plunger aspirations if reconstitution of the medication or the vaccine is required, or if multiple drugs need to be mixed in the same syringe before being administered to the patient. This definition is provided for syringes used in curative services where a broad range of injection procedures are performed and are typically 2.0 – 10.0 ml in size. • ISO 23908: “sterile hypodermic syringes with a sharps injury protection feature (SIP)”. Some SIPs also have a built-in RUP feature. SIPs cover AD and RUP syringes that have an additional feature to prevent sharps injury, such as a means to contain the infected sharp after use. The evidence-based policy guidance contained in this document will be the first WHO policy document that specifically addresses the use of safety-engineered injection devices for therapeutic injections. It complements and expands previously issued WHO guidance, including the following: • WHO-UNICEF-UNFPA Joint Policy Statement issued in 1999 (http://www.who. int/injection_safety/toolbox/resources/en/). The 1999 policy recommends the exclusive use of AD syringes for all immunization injections; • “Guiding principles to ensure injection device security” (4) issued by SIGN in 2003, which states: “syringes with a RUP feature offer the highest level of safety for injection recipients. They should be considered for use for therapeutic injections where local data indicate that unsafe practices are particularly common.”; • WHO best practices for injections and related procedures toolkit, published by WHO in 2010 (5), which notes the importance of sufficient supply of qualityassured syringes and matching quantities of safety boxes. It is expected that the evidence-based policy guidance in this document will additionally contribute to preventing the re-use of syringes on patients and to a decrease in the rate of needle-stick injuries in HCWs related to injection procedures, thus contributing to the prevention of injection-transmitted infections. Based on the findings of the systematic review, out of every 1000 HCWs in settings where SIP devices are introduced, nine fewer (from six fewer to 11 fewer) are likely to suffer a needle-stick injury in a one year period. There are no expected harms. Greater benefits can be expected in settings with higher HIV, HBV and HCV disease prevalence, higher sharps injury frequency and higher rate of re-use of injection equipment. WHO has developed the policy recommendations in this document using the procedures from the WHO handbook for guideline development. The steps in this process include: (i) identification of priority questions and outcomes; (ii) retrieval of the evidence; (iii) assessment and synthesis of the evidence; (iv) formulation of WHO guideline on the use of safety-engineered syringes in health care settings 10 Executive summary recommendations, including research priorities; and (v) planning for dissemination, implementation, impact evaluation and updating of the guideline when new evidence is available. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology was followed to prepare evidence profiles related to preselected topics, based on up-to-date systematic reviews. The Guideline Development Group (GDG) and the Guideline External Expert Group comprised content experts, methodologists, representatives of professional associations, key NGOs and organizations working on injection safety and representatives of patients’ associations. The GDG met at a WHO technical consultation held in Geneva in March 2014. Members of the External Experts Group were identified through previous collaborative work in injection safety, from the Safe Injection Global Network (SIGN) members and through a public call for comment published in SIGN Post, an electronic weekly newsletter which has 1500 subscribers interested in injection safety. The SIGN Post members were involved in an external peer review once the recommendations had been developed by the GDG. The GDG agreed, by consensus among its members, on the strength of recommendations, taking into consideration: (i) the benefits and possible harms of this intervention; (ii) the quality of the available evidence; (iii) the values and preferences related to the intervention in different settings; and (iv) the cost of different devices available in the international market. To ensure there were no conflicts of interest, all members of the GDG completed a Declaration of Interests form prior to the meeting and the development of the policy recommendations. The GDG made the following recommendations: 1. “We recommend the use of injection devices with a sharps injury protection feature (SIP), as opposed to devices without a sharps injury protection feature, by HCWs delivering intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injectable medications to patients (conditional recommendation, moderate quality evidence)”. 2. “We recommend the use of injection devices with a re-use prevention feature (RUP), as opposed to devices without re-use prevention features, by HCWs delivering intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injectable medications to patients (conditional recommendation, very low quality evidence)”. The conditional nature of the recommendations is consistent with the quality of the level of evidence on the impact of introducing safety-engineered devices. The current prevalence of the problem, however, suggests that doing nothing is not an acceptable course of action (13).

1. Accelerate early. You know you are going to face delays at some time on your project. Therefore, if at all possible, try to get ahead of schedule early. This might be done by starting the project earlier than planned, or adding resources earlier than planned. You need to have a mindset that you are not going to start out late, and you are not even happy to be on-schedule. You want to get ahead of schedule to build an early buffer to protect against future delays.

2. Fast-track dependent activities. Most of the activities in your schedule are linked to others with a finish-to-start relationship. Think about whether you really need to wait until the first task finishes, or if there is an opportunity to move forward with the second task early. For example, you may have two activities called "write requirements" and "design solution" that are linked in your schedule. You might ask whether you really have to wait until 100% of the requirements are written before you can begin designing the solution? Maybe you can start the overall design when the requirements are 80% finished. If that's the case then the overall elapsed time for the project will be shorter. There is some risk with this approach, but it may be worthwhile to you.

3. Remove activities that are no longer needed

When you first write your schedule, you are assuming all of the activities are necessary and achievable. However as the project progresses, things change.  You need to review the remaining activities and remove anything that isn't absolutely necessary. Some activities may no longer be needed. Perhaps some can be pushed to post implementation.

4. Add resources to the critical path

Check if you have flexibility to add resources. These may be specialists, or perhaps there are some general activities that anyone can do. This technique is also called "crashing"

5. Optimize your processes

Look for process improvement opportunities that will save time. For example, an approval process might normally take two weeks. Is there a way it can be done in one week, or one day? Or perhaps you realize a process that takes four activities can actually be done with three activities.

Task-8>

If you wish to protect an idea, there are certain important things that you must know before filing a patent. How can your idea qualify as an invention? First, you cannot patent a mere idea as an idea is usually theoretical in nature. Many people have great ideas, but cannot obtain patents for them as they are not inventions.

An invention must fulfil certain patentability criteria, which can vary across jurisdictions. In general, the term 'invention' means a unique product or process. The invention must:

  • be novel – it must have at least one feature which is not present in single prior art;
  • be non-obvious – it must have at least one feature which is novel and should not be obvious to a person skilled in the field of the invention in view of a combination of multiple prior arts or a single prior art and common general knowledge; and
  • have industrial application – most jurisdictions proscribe patenting in certain areas (eg, scientific theory, new animal or plant varieties, methods of treatment, algorithms, mathematical formulas, business methods and software).

The process of obtaining a patent can be expensive as a number of fees must be paid (eg, a filing fee, an examination fee and attorney fees). While discounted official fees apply to individual inventors and small enterprises in most jurisdictions, the overall cost of protecting the invention can be high, particularly if the inventor wishes to protect his or her invention in multiple jurisdictions.

It is generally advisable to carry out a prior art search yourself or engage a professional to do so before beginning the patenting process. Based on the findings of the prior art search, the novel and inventive features of the invention can be identified clearly, and a decision can be made regarding in which jurisdictions to file. There are multiple advantages of conducting a prior art search:

  • It can avoid wasting money and resources in patent filings and prosecution proceedings if the invention is not unique, allowing R&D centres to use their IP budgets wisely.
  • The prior art search helps to identify the closest prior arts and thus can define the scope of protection in patent claims. This can even lead to a reduction in the prosecution time due to the need for fewer office actions and claim amendments. The prior art search is like a due diligence exercise that can reduce the risk of rejection of the patent application.

In order to conduct a prior art search, it must first be understood what can act as prior art against the patent application. Prior art is any publicly available evidence that proves that an invention is already known or obvious. Any granted patent, published patent application, article, research paper, web page, book or video can be potential prior art for the patent application. The prior art search is simple and can be carried out by anyone. Sometimes an inventor may not be as familiar with the prior art search process as a professional searcher; however, there are many patent databases and search engines for novice users.

A typical prior art search process requires a search strategy to be formulated at the beginning using a keyword search, name search, classification search or a citation search, or a combination thereof. In the keyword search, all of the key features of the invention are identified and then keywords and their contextual synonyms are ascertained from the key features of the invention to formulate search strings to be run on patent and non-patent databases. In addition, patent classes, applicants and inventors relevant to the field of invention may be identified and used in the search strings to refine the search strategy. All of the search results must be manually analysed to shortlist the most relevant prior arts. For this purpose, only the title and abstract of the search results can be read for the first level of screening, and then other sections of the search results can be seen at the second level of screening, if required. Once most of the relevant prior arts have been shortlisted, their citations can be checked to discover more results around the shortlisted ones.

It is always better to try several search strings to ensure that all permutations and combinations are covered. However, a prior art search can never be complete. It can never be said with certainty that no prior art exists as the search requires skills, training and practice. Nevertheless, an inventor should attempt to carry out a comprehensive prior art search in order to minimise the risk of rejection of the patent application or invalidation of the granted patent at a later stage.

Patentable subject matter in India

Invention must

  • relates to a process or a product or both
  • be new (Novel)
  • involves an inventive step
  • be capable of industrial application
  • not fall under Section 3 and 4

Patentability requirements of an invention

  • Newness or novelty
  • Inventive step or non-obviousness requirement
  • Capable of Industrial application
  • Enabling

What we can learn from it:

If your innovative idea is a product or a process that has novelty, has an inventive step, and is capable of the industrial application then the invention said to be a patentable invention.

Now let’s look at each patentability criteria one by one so that we can see if our innovative idea satisfies them and whether we should proceed with the patent application.

Newness or novelty requirement

Sections 2(1)(l) and 2(1)(j) of the Patents Act highlight the difference between a new invention and an invention.  A ‘new invention’ is defined as:

any invention or technology which has not been anticipated by publication in any document or used in the country or elsewhere in the world before the date of filing of a patent application with complete specification, i.e., the subject matter has not fallen in the public domain or that it does not form part of the state of the art.

An invention is said to be novel if all elements of a claim of the invention are not anticipated by a single prior art that is published, or used or known to the public.

Refer our section on “working with patent agent or attorney” on patent drafting for understanding importance of claim and the role they play in patent.

Inventive step or non-obviousness

Now let’s talk about the inventive step, also known as the non-obviousness test for your innovative idea.

An inventive step is said to be present in your invention when it has a technical advance as compared to the existing knowledge (that is state of the art of your field of the invention) or it has economic significance or you invention has both such that it makes your invention non-obvious to a person skilled in the art.

So, we need to identify a feature of our invention that is either technically advance or it is economically significant or both, when it is compared to state of the art or existing knowledge such that our invention becomes non-obvious to a person skilled in the art.

Technical advance means some feature of the invention is having advancement which is technical in nature as compared to the existing knowledge.

A person skilled in the art is a person who has average skills from your domain. For example, if your invention is related to a mechanical device, the person skilled in the art would be from a mechanical background. If there are multiple technologies used in the invention then a person skilled in the art is assumed to have all the knowledge (that is available and known to the public) from the technologies involved. This is to assess the inventiveness of the invention.

The idea here is our invention should not be obvious to a person skilled in the art (that is an average person from a background of the field of the invention).

In other words, considering the state of the art (things are already known to the public) and assuming the person skilled in the art does not have any knowledge about our invention, if that person skilled in the art was asked to solve the problem (that our invention solves), then our invention should not come as a natural suggestion by that person skilled in the art. Which ultimately means invention should not be obvious. This is in essence known as the non-obviousness test.

Few approches to achieve Inventive step

few approches to achieve Inventive step are:

  • Inventions is solveting a long-standing technical problem which is tried to be solved by prior arts but could not.
  • If invention is showing unexpected technical effect of a new combination of known elements
  • The digree of difficulty to a person to combine known prior arts to arrive at solution, etc..
  • The “problem/solution” approach is usually used for evaluating inventive step, wherein the solution presented by the patent application is checked if it is obvious to a person skilled in the art.

And one of the ways to qualify for the non-obviousness test of patentability is mentioning and proving to the examiner that our invention is solving a long-standing problem in the industry. Pointing out that the problem existed for a long time and there was a need to solve the problem, also mentioning existing prior arts and patent references who tried before but could not solve up to a certain extent   (stating problems with the prior arts in the background of the invention while drafting patent) and since the problem has not solved till now it ultimately means the solution to the problem that is our invention was Not obvious.

Now, this is not your job as an inventor to do all this, in fact, this is the responsibility of a patent agent or patent attorney working on your invention.  an experienced patent professional would be asking you for the required details and technicality of your invention and using such information while drafting patent application for your invention which gives a very good chance for your patent application to stand through the examination stage till the grant of patent.

This is explained in detail in the section “preparing patent application (patent drafting)”

Industrial application or utility

Section2(1)(ac) capable of industrial application”, in relation to an invention, means that the invention is capable of being made or used in an industry;

Industrial application means invention is capable of being made or used in any kind of industry. This is also known as usefulness, a patented invention should be able to be produced on a large scale that is it could be created, used and repeated.

Now if you observe the word in the definition is Capable of industrial application, which means it need not be mass-produced right now, but has the capability of industrial application in the future.  In general, this patentability requirement of usefulness or industrial application is not much of a problem to prove.

Who can apply for a patent in India?

An application for a Patent for an invention may be made by any of the following persons either alone or jointly with any other person:

  • The true and first inventor
  • True and first inventor‘s assignee
  • The legal representative of the deceased true and first inventor or his/her assignee

INVENTION l. Field of the Invention This invention is directed to a syringe device that can be .easily and conveniently transported, and is disposable upon the use thereof. The syringe embodying the present invention is particularly useful as a douching device to provide feminine hygeine wherever needed,
or desired.
2. Description of the Prior'Art There are a number of disposable, douching devices presently on the market. The advantages of manufacturingsuch type devices are rather obvious. It is often cumbersome and somewhat embarrassing to transport a permanent type douching device'on trips and visits when the use of such a device is required away from home. Consequently, being able to purchase a disposable device at a reasonable price to transport to a location where the need should arise away from home would eliminate the aforementioned cumbersome and embarrassing situations. To this end, the disposable device, which can be easily folded and stored in a pocketbook, handbag, -or the like, provides a great service to the transient user.
Unfortunately, the disposable devices presently on the market have at least two serious drawbacks. First, in a multi-unit device (eg., a device where the nozzle and bag are disjoined), the device is difficult to assem-- ble, thereby offsetting the conveniences it may provide. To illustrate, a device presently on the market includes a separate nozzle and a bag. Prior to'using, water and other materials must 'be poured into the bag through an opening at the top of the bag. The nozzle must then be inserted into the opening and tightened securely. To accomplish this, grooves are provided around the opening which complement similar grooves provided around the nozzle. Often, in preparing to use the bag,
for example, in pouring water therein, the grooves become distorted, and a snug and secure fit between the nozzle and the bag is not attained. The efficiency of the bag during the use thereof is,'thus, impeded. Secondly, in a typical single'unit device (eg., a device where'the nozzle and bag are an integral single unit), it is necessary to employ a flexible nozzle.'This is-so because water must be poured in through the opening in the nozzle, thus the nozzle must be constructed in such a way so that it may be suitably positioned under or adjacent a water outlet. A flexible nozzle is generally inadequate to perform its necessary function when operating the douching device.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention is directed to a single unit douching device, that is, a devicewhich has a combined bag and nozzle joined integrallyinto one piece. The present device is inexpensive to make, easy to use, employs a rigid nozzle, and can be readily transported and disposed of. The invention is attained by employing a flexible bag made of inexpensive material, such as vinyl, polyethylene, polypropylene, or other like plastic materials that are well known in the art, and are of the same general class of materials as the above mentioned materials. Illustrative of this class are the thermoplastic materials categorized as olefins, styrenes, tetrafluoraethylenes, and the poly structures of these materials. The nozzle is formed of hard plastic materials, such as acrylic, lucite, plexiglass, and the like. The nozzle is cast molded, blown, or otherwise fashioned to form the desired shape in its rigid state.
The key to the invention'resides in the provision of an opening which is located on the bag remote from the nozzle opening, where water and other additives can be placed in the bag without otherwise disturbing the nozzle. A friction sealable membrane is affixed on the bag, adjacent the opening, for sealably engaging the bag over the opening afterthe bag has been filled with the desired douching materials.

When you look at product design, our primary focus has to be the end user and delivering a great user experience. We work as a central hub for all the elements that drive product development. For example, we connect with engineering, manufacturing, software, etc. As a result, it’s important for us to understand all of these core functions.

Through the years, our philosophy has been that product design and engineering must go hand in hand. Ultimately, a great design is nothing if you can’t produce it at the right pricepoint with the right quantity for the market.

About a year ago, our senior design team came up with these five elements for product design that are driven by what is most important in products today:

  1. Product must be authentic. Identify a clear purpose and make that purpose apparent in its design.
  2. Product must provide unique experiences. It’s not only about a product’s look and feel; it’s about the interaction process and how users experience a product.
  3. Effective product design goes unnoticed. Create a friction-free experience that becomes a part of your life. Conversely, you avoid a negative experience where every detail is noticeable.
  4. Do one thing extremely well. Find your product’s one essential function and make it really good with emphasis on simplicity.
  5. Solve pain points elegantly. Make the interactions with your product expressive and interesting for its users.

Over the last 20 years, there has been a natural flow of combining digital and physical interactions into product design. The human level of interaction with products is much deeper than it used to be. As a result, you can’t just make something that works and looks beautiful.

You’ve designed and built a great product that everyone will want to use and tell their friends about. It is destined to be “the next big thing”. But you still have one more major hurdle to overcome, and this will possibly be the biggest challenge. How will you tell the world about your product? This final section deals with launching great products.

Ineffective product management can lead to 1 in 3 product launches failing. You did a great job with Design and Build. Finish strong with a great product launch.

This phase is where the work you did at the start putting together a business case comes into play. In the business case, you defined your Routes To Market (RTM) which answers questions like:

  • Who are you going to sell the product to (e.g. end users, ISVs, SIs, VARs?
  • Are your buyers consumers or businesses?
  • Who makes the purchasing decision?
  • Where are they in the world (i.e., do you have a global, regional, or local market for your product)?
  • How will they purchase your product (e.g., via App store or online marketplace, from business partners, on your website, through enterprise sellers)?

The Launch process primarily involves executing the Go-To-Market strategy (ideally) put together during the Designing phase. Product Management is the driver of creation and execution of the GTM Strategy, involving Marketing, Sales, Press Relations, Analyst Relations, Customer Support, and the partner ecosystem.

As a Product Manager, this phase may involve travel if your GTM Strategy has in-person enablement sellers and partners. You may also participate in calls with analysts and press, working with the teams that handle Analyst and Press Relations. And lastly, one of the best ways to get visibility for your new offering is at conferences – speaking, hosting events, and having an expo booth.

Here’s how to start

Your approach to launching great products should include these steps:

  • Go-To-Market Strategy – this is your plan to announce and deliver your new product to the target market, as well as build up the supporting ecosystem (e.g., business partners).
  • Product Marketing – deals with the messaging as well as how word about your product will be communicated across the various Routes-To-Market identified in the GTM Strategy This step could will involve social media, advertisements, press, and analysts.
  • Pricing Strategies – what are the processes and methodologies that you will use to price your new product or service? Will there be a trial or freemium version? Tiered pricing for small, medium, and large businesses? Will your product be a one-time purchase (e.g., a game app) or include a subscription? Is support included? And some apps may be free (e.g., a flashlight app or social media); how will you monetize the users even though you’re not charging for use of your product?
  • Brand Positioning – this step describes how your new offering is positioned not only within the market, but also within your company’s strategy. Your product could be standalone, or part of a family of offerings.
  • Acquisition, Conversion, & Retention – this step is your sales funnel and deals with how you drive prospects into the funnel, get them to purchase your offering (or whatever convert means for your product), and then keep them. For SaaS products, it is often measured by Monthly Active Users (MAU) – how many customers did you acquire versus lose.
  • Prioritization – compromises again need to be made, especially with Marketing as there will be limited resources ($) to promote your great product globally and to train sellers and partners how to sell it.
  • Customer focus – social proof is a key aspect of launching your product. Will your beta users and key stakeholders provide testimonials, reviews, and case studies? How will you watch what your customers are saying as your product takes off?
  • Market & Customer Research – just like during the Designing and Building stages, market and customer needs will change during the Launch process. Stay on top of what’s going on. Ensure your messaging defines your product’s differentiated value.
  • Competitive Analysis – your competitors won’t stand still once you’ve launched your great product. Monitor what they’re saying and shipping, and compare it to your proposed offering. Does any messaging need to tweaked? Are your differentiators still accurate?
  • Measuring Success – what metrics and KPIs will determine whether your product is successful once it ships. Customer acquisition and retention will play a key role. Which new features are being adopted, and can you do anything to accelerate the adoption of lesser-used features? Are you achieving the revenue targets identified in your business case? Unfortunately, product quality can also become a concern once your product ships.
