Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack

1) For a 10 cell series lithium ion battery model, simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB.

*** SIMULINK model of 10 series lithium ion battery:

Blocks used in the SIMULINK model:

Lithium cell

Conductive heat transfer

Heat transfer

Convective heat transfer

Temperature source

PS converter

Temperature sensor

Current sensor

Gain block

Integrator

Sum block

Scope block

GoTo block

From To block

Solver configuration block

Thermal reference block

Mux block

Display block

This SIMULINK model shows how the faulted battery works with the good ones and how the thermal effect changes accordingly.

Ambient temperature is set and the temperature us transferred by convective method beteen ywo bodies using fluid motion to the lithium cell.

Conductive heat transfer block is used to conduct heat between the materials.

Temperature sensor is used to sense the temperture.

Current sensor is used to sense the charging and discharging current.

After this it is integrated using the integrator block.

Parameters of Cell 1-04:

Parameters of Cell 5:

parameters of Cell 6-10:

Only for the cell 5 the electrical parameters are changed to make it as a faulty one.

Now, finally after completing the SIMULINK model the model is simulated for 3600 seconds and the results are obtained in the graph format.
