Project - 2 - Meshing on the suspension Assembly

Objective: perform 2D and tetra meshing on the model provided and perform necessary connections.

Abstract: in this project, we will take half portion of car rear suspension system here will perform meshing, tetra meshing on different component with 3D,2D,1D elements along with we will also implement the connections for the required areas of bolt , welds, etc,.the components with a uniform thickness with less than 5 mm will be captured by mid surface extraction technique (i.e 2D ELEMENTS ) where the components having more than 5mm thickness will be captured as tetra mesh (i.e 3D ELEMENTS ) and coil spring will capture as 1D elements .

Given data:

Here given data provide are

2. CAD model of half rear suspension & wheel system :

The suspension system of a vehicle refers to the group of mechanical component that connect the wheels to the frame or body. A great deal of engineering efforts has gone into the design of suspension systems because of an unending effort to improve vehicle ride and handling along with passenger safety and comfort.

Procedure :

Model include many individual components and after importing the model in ANSA our first step is to seggrecate different component by using iNOT command and set up new PID for each component

Once PID is done we will move to check the geometrical error for each individual component and each component should pass the quality check before moving to mesh

To do this check we have to go in CHECKS available in top ribben bar >> geometry and execute the check

After all components has been check . measure the thickness of component . components which are have less that 5mm thickness is and having uniform thickness is performed by shell mesh and components having more than 5 mm thickness is done by volume mesh

Input quality criteria for each condition

Mesh parameter for each conditions will be as below .

Quality criteria for each condition as below

Once quality criteria is beenentewred we can move to meshing . to do shell meshing we will use auto mid and batch meshing

And surface mesh of all non uniform thickness component including tyre and rim is done by batch mesh each component is meshed individually at a time

After surface meshing of every component is done volume mesh to is define for it in volume mesh module to do this we have to isolate the component having surface mesh and then go to V.MESH MODULE >VOLUMES >DEFINE . an pop up box will pop up select option shown in below image

And press ok to confirm it. It will define volume which can be meshed by using list in here defined volumes are arrange sequentially

In that list select the component for which the volume has be defined and haven’t meshed yet . do right click on it list of options will come out select REMESH.

Remesh can be done with four deferent methods . we use tetra FEM method

After mesh has been done check if any volume mesh is been failing for tet collapse criteria . if it is failing we have to clear that failure

Similarly all other components should be meshed

After this next step is to give appropriate connection as shown below

Finally symmetry have to performed to complete the project

Learning outcomes:

Learn how to import CAD model into ANSA

Understand clearing geometrical issues

Understand working with batch mesh for shell as well as surface meshing for volume mesh

Done volume mesh

Represent suspension spring into 1D element

Done necessary connections

Done symmetry on the model

Conclusions :

only clearing tet collapse element is enough in volume meshing
