Challenge

Project 2 - Implement the Code for controlling the retraction and extension of Airplane’s landing gear

Overview of the Project:

In this project, controlling the retraction and extension of Airplane’s landing gear can be implemented using Finite State Machine (FSM). FSM is the most efficient algorithm which is mathematical model of computation.

Goals

  • Controlling the direction of Valve.
  • Controlling the retraction and extension of Airplane’s landing gear.

Key Highlights of the Project:

A direction valve is controlled by the software to allow the hydraulic pressure to either raise or lower the landing gear.

Deliverables of this project:

Implementing the control for the retraction and extension of Airplane’s landing gear using the Finite state machine with the knowledge of various states of switch and gear.

Expected Outcomes:

f Finite State Machine algorithm which is used to achieve the control over the retraction and extension of Airplane’s landing gear using the switch and gear states of Airplane.

Here two Structure of type def is created

1. LandingGearSTATE to states of the Finite State Machine- RETRACTION, EXTENSION and TRANSITION

2. LandingGearEVENT to events that trigger state transitions - SWITCH UP, SWITCH DOWN and Quit

Program

#include <stdio.h>

// Define states of the Finite State Machine

typedef enum {

RETRACTED,

EXTENDED,

TRANSITION,

} LandingGearState;

// Define events that trigger state transitions

typedef enum {

SWITCH_UP,

SWITCH_DOWN,

QUIT,

} LandingGearEvent;

// Function to control the direction valve based on the current state

void controlDirectionValve(LandingGearState currentState) {

// Implement logic to control the direction valve based on the current state

// This may involve managing hydraulic pressure to raise or lower the landing gear

// Additional safety checks and system-specific logic should be implemented here

printf("Controlling direction valve in state: %d\n", currentState);

}

// Function to handle state transitions based on events

LandingGearState transition(LandingGearState currentState, LandingGearEvent event) {

switch (currentState) {

case RETRACTED:

if (event == SWITCH_UP) {

return TRANSITION;

} else {

return RETRACTED;

}

case EXTENDED:

if (event == SWITCH_DOWN) {

return TRANSITION;

} else {

return EXTENDED;

}

case TRANSITION:

// Logic to handle the transitional state

// This might involve waiting for a certain condition to be met

// before transitioning to the next state

if (event == SWITCH_UP) {

return EXTENDED;

} else if (event == SWITCH_DOWN) {

return RETRACTED;

} else {

return TRANSITION;

}

}

}

int main() {

// Initialize the FSM

LandingGearState currentState = RETRACTED;

// User interaction loop

LandingGearEvent userCommand;

do {

// Display current state and prompt for user input

printf("Current State: %d\n", currentState);

printf("Enter command (1: Switch Up, 2: Switch Down, 3: Quit): ");

scanf("%d", (int*)&userCommand);

// Process user input and control the landing gear

switch (userCommand) {

case SWITCH_UP:

case SWITCH_DOWN:

currentState = transition(currentState, userCommand);

controlDirectionValve(currentState);

break;

case QUIT:

printf("Exiting program.\n");

break;

default:

printf("Invalid command. Please enter a valid command.\n");

}

} while (userCommand != QUIT);

return 0;

}
