PROJECT-02 REAR SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY MODEL MESHING FOR STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

For the given assembly, check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element Quality criteria. After meshing the component, the thickness must be assigned for mid surfaces. Use tetra elements to model some of the component and there should not be any quality-off elements on the surface in the component. Also use connections to connect the subassembly components as suggested.

F.1 Quality criteria surface mesh.

Procedure

To begin with the meshing procedure first is necessary to open the ANSA file which contains the CAD geometry, with all the geometry errors, and unchecked coons or surfaces, we proceed to refine the mesh length in the edges and return to the TOPO window which defines as seen in F.2 the types of conns and crossed surfaces. In Fig. 1, the surface mesh requirements given must be followed to obtain good results and fast calculations.

F.2 Original rear suspension assembly geometry

As F.2 shows three COG points (center of gravity) created to define a mirror plane for which in F.3 the rims and tires are perfectly symmetric as well as some other subassembly parts, one which is the cover of some spring which is made of rubber that in a structural analysis won’t affect the results will be eliminated.

F.3 Symmetric components

While maintain hidden the similar parts, the efforts to mesh will be applied into as in F.4 only these components generating the surface and volume mesh where needed as well as the connections (welds and screws).

F.4 TOPO subassembly geometry

As in F.5 the surface mesh is completed and the PID’s are edited for the sheet metal parts with thickness to have it configured, the following step is to define and generate the volume mesh, one consideration its that as it’s the negative view, the mesh obtained is according to the quality criteria required and no geometry or mesh error are obtained or were corrected.

F.5 Surface mesh completed

To give a clear idea of the possibility with using the thickness property in some sheet metal parts and assemblies, F.6 contains the meshed view if them seeing the volumes as the simulator will obtain the data and perform the simulation process which can obtain surface mesh with the thickness or a volume mesh.

F.6 Surface thickness view

Once finishing all surface and volume mesh assemblies the simulation pre-process will contain connections depending on the practical assembly required be the components to maintain its position and strength after the forces and vibrations applied in F.7 shows the screw connections around several holes to connect more than more component and in F.8 one example from the weld connection is seen in which the surface mesh is adjusted due to the need of the weld according to the width length and height of the physical one.

F.7 Screws connections

F.8 Weld connections

Conclusion

As conclusion, according to the quality conditions at table in F.1, I was able to obtain a great quality surface and volume mesh, applying the modules and tools by obtaining a batch automatic mesh and offset selection for sheet metal parts and selecting the most improved tetra volume mesh, performing the pre-processing section for a simulation, by having a complete mesh as Fig. 9, seeing the thickness property visualization as in F.6, and deciding the performance for the simulation desired which is great for this system.

F.9 Complete pre-process mesh and connections.
