Project 2
-
Check the base pressure and settlement beneath the base slab. Ensure that the base pressure and settlement are within the limits mentioned in Project-1. If the limits are exceeded, increase or decrease the dimensions of the base slab accordingly.
-
Report the following results to carry out the structural design of elements:
- Design maximum and minimum moments in walls and base slabs using the Wood Armer Simplified Method.
- Design maximum and minimum shear stresses in walls and base slabs.
- Design maximum and minimum axial stresses in walls and base slabs.
- Conduct structural design of the elements by performing the following checks:
- Construct an excel spreadsheet for calculating the reinforcement requirement in short and long walls and base slabs. Calculate the required design reinforcement by adding the contribution due to direct tension using the method mentioned in Week-3.
- Check the crack widths of short and long walls and base slab and ensure that they are less than 0.2mm.
- Draft cross-sectional reinforcement detail (plan and elevation) using a CAD software. If CAD is not available, sketch the details using any drawing tool and clearly indicate all the details.
To draft the reinforcement details, follow these steps:
- Obtain the required reinforcement from the spreadsheet calculated in the previous step for each element (short walls, long walls, and base slab).
- Determine the spacing, diameter, and number of bars required for the reinforcement of each element based on the design calculations and code provisions.
- Draw the cross-sectional details of each element, showing all the reinforcement details, including the number of bars, diameter, spacing, and anchorage length. The details should be drawn to scale and show the exact location of the reinforcement.
- Draw the elevation view of the wall and slab, showing the reinforcement arrangement, lap length, and anchorage length of each bar.
- Indicate the stirrup spacing, diameter, and number of stirrups required for each element.
- Finally, include all the necessary notes, such as bar bending schedules, material specifications, and details of the structural elements.
