Project 1- Traffic Jam Assistant Feature

Report on the Development of a Traffic Jam Assistant Algorithm for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) in MATLAB Simulink

Executive Summary:

This report outlines the development of a critical component of the Traffic Jam Assistant algorithm, intended for implementation within the context of an Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The project follows Model-Based Development (MBD) guidelines using MATLAB Simulink and includes the configuration of an Embedded Coder profile for code generation. A Simulink Data Dictionary has been created to efficiently manage signal data types, ranges, and initial values. The Model Advisor tool has been employed to ensure compliance with best practices and standards

1. Introduction:

The Traffic Jam Assistant is a prominent feature in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), designed to enhance driver safety and comfort in dense traffic and traffic jam scenarios. The specific focus of this project is to develop a core part of the algorithm that relates to the IPC. This report presents the key processes, requirements, and steps involved in this development.

2. Problem Statement:

The problem statement for this project consists of several core components:

2.1 Input Signals:

- `Input_Voltage`: A uint8 signal ranging from 0 to 255.

- `Input_Switch`: A boolean signal indicating on/off (0 or 1).

- `Enable_Display`: A uint8 signal ranging from 0 to 255.

2.2 Output Signal:

- `Output_Display`: A uint8 signal ranging from 0 to 255.

2.3 Calibration Signals:

- A set of calibration signals including `VOLTAGE_MINIMUM_RANGE`, `VOLTAGE_MAXIMUM_RANGE`, `OFF_MODE`, `ON_MODE`, `STANDBY_MODE`, `INTERRUPT_1`, `INTERRUPT_2`, and `NO_DISPLAY`.

2.4 Local Signal:

- `Optimum_Voltage`: A boolean signal indicating whether the input voltage falls within a specified range.

3. Requirements:

3.1 Requirement No 1: Input Voltage Range Check:

- The `Input_Voltage` signal is compared against voltage values `VOLTAGE_MINIMUM_RANGE` and `VOLTAGE_MAXIMUM_RANGE`.

- The `Input_Voltage` must fall within the specified range.

- The output signal `Optimum_Voltage` will be used as an input to the subsystem "DisplayUnit."

3.2 Requirement No 2 (DisplayUnit Subsystem)

- The `DisplayUnit` subsystem processes input signals: `Optimum_Voltage`, `Input_Switch`, and `Enable_Display`.

- `Enable_Display` is saturated within the range of 0 to 7.

- A multiport switch selects different modes (ON_MODE, OFF_MODE, STANDBY_MODE) based on the `Enable_Display` value.

- The NOT value of `Input_Switch` is compared with the equality of calibration signals `INTERRUPT_1` and `INTERRUPT_2` in an AND gate.

- The output of the multiport switch and the AND gate are inputs to a Switch block.

- The output of the Switch block is the `Output_Display` signal.

4. Aim:

The aim of this project is to:

- Develop a specific part of the Traffic Jam Assistant algorithm that pertains to the IPC.

- Implement this algorithm in MATLAB Simulink, adhering to MBD guidelines and best practices.

- Configure an Embedded Coder profile to facilitate the generation of embedded C code from the Simulink model.

- Establish a Simulink Data Dictionary for efficient data management.

- Utilize the Model Advisor tool to ensure that the developed model complies with established guidelines and standards.

5. Methodology:

The development of the Traffic Jam Assistant algorithm for the IPC is carried out in the following steps:

5.1 MATLAB Simulink Model Development:

  • Creating a Simulink model which has basically 2 subsystems comprising of requirement 1 and requirement 2.

  • It has 3 inputs from which 1st input (Input_Voltage) goes to the 1st subsystem (requirement 1) where it gets compared with two constant values named VOLTAGE_MINIMUM_RANGE and VOLTAGE_MAXIMUM_RANGE. These are minimum (30V) and maximum (50V) values of voltage which the input voltage coming in should satisfy.

  • The output from this subsystem is fed as an input to the 2nd subsystem (requirement 2) with two more inputs namely Input_Switch and Enable_Switch.

  • Inside the 2nd subsystem, we are using a multiport switch that selects the appropriate mode of operation for the traffic assistance system. Modes are ON, OFF, and STANDBY. The output of this multiport is then again compared with two interrupts. These values are compared with the NO_DISPLAY value. The output of this provides the display output.

5.2 Simulink Data Dictionary:

  • Creating a simulink data dictionary as per the given input, output, calibration, and local signals.

5.3 - Model Advisor Compliance:

  • Before performing the model advisor report we make setting changes in the model settings.

  • Utilizing the Model Advisor tool to assess the model's adherence to best practices and standards (preferably ISO 26262) and making necessary adjustments to meet compliance.

5.4 Embedded Coder Configuration:

  • After generating the model advisor report, then builds the code generation by making the setting as ert.tlc (Embedded coder).

6. Results:

The outcomes of this project include a well-defined Simulink model representing a crucial part of the Traffic Jam Assistant algorithm. The model is configured for code generation and is linked to a Simulink Data Dictionary for efficient data management. Additionally, the Model Advisor report confirms compliance with established guidelines and scope output.

7. Conclusion:

The development of the Traffic Jam Assistant algorithm for the IPC is a critical step in enhancing driver safety and comfort during traffic jams. This project successfully creates a functional component within the algorithm, ensuring that the IPC correctly displays information based on input conditions and calibration settings.
