Project 1 - Loss calculation for a DC/DC converter-MATLAB

Boost converter model in matlab

Design values:

Vin = 100 V

Vout = 200 V

L = 200uH

C = 400uF

rL = 10 mohm

rC = 2 mohm

Duty ratio = 0.5

R = 10 ohm

The input and output voltage and current waveforms are shown below. The input voltage is 100V and input current is 40A.

The output voltage is around 200V, the output current is around 20A

Mosfet conduction losses = Vds.id = Rds(on) (id)(id)(D)

= (0.003)* (40)^2*0.5 = 2.4W

Diode conduction losses = (1-D)[ Rd*Iin^2+Iin*Vf]

= (0.5)(0.003*40^2 + 40*0.7]

=94W

Inductor loss = Rl *Iin^2 + Rl/12 (D*Vin/f*L)^2

= 10e-3*40^2 + 10e-3/12 ( 0.5*100)/ 200e-6 * 50e3)

= 16W

Capacitor loss = Rc*D (1-D)Iin^2 + Rc/12 (1-D)(D*Vin/L*f)

= 0.002*0.5 *(1-0.5)*40^2 +0.002/12(0.5)(0.5*100/400e-6*50e3)

= 0.800W

Total loss = 113.2W

power input= 4000W

Power output =Power input - losses

= 3886.8W

Efficiency = 3886.8/4000 = 97.17%
