Aim

To analyse and visualize global COVID-19 vaccination progress using interactive dashboards in Power BI, highlighting vaccination trends across countries, manufacturers, and time.

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic catalysed one of the largest global vaccination drives in history. Countries raced to acquire, distribute, and administer vaccines from a range of manufacturers. Understanding the trends, patterns, and challenges in this process is crucial for informing future public health strategies and global readiness.

Problem Statement

Despite the global availability of vaccines, discrepancies exist in vaccination rates, manufacturer choices, and vaccination outcomes across countries. This project aims to explore:

• Which countries had the highest/lowest vaccination rates?

• Which vaccines were most widely used and where?

• How did vaccination rates evolve over time?

• What can be learned from leading countries' approaches?

Methodology

📂 Data Sources

1. country_vaccinations.csv:

o Daily country-level vaccination data

o Columns: total vaccinations, people vaccinated, daily numbers, vaccine types, etc.

2. country_vaccinations_by_manufacturer.csv:

o Country-wise vaccine administration counts by manufacturer

Tools Used

• Power BI for dashboard creation and interactivity

• Power Query Editor for data transformation

• DAX for custom measures and KPIs

Steps

1. Import both datasets into Power BI.

2. Clean null values, format dates, and normalize vaccine names.

3. Create relationships between datasets (e.g., country and date).

4. Build visuals and insights from key metrics.

📈 Analysis

Suggested Power BI Visuals:

The above visualization explains us the sum of vaccinations to date as we can see a constant spike in the increase of the vaccination

This visualization explains the countries that are vaccinated with the exact numbers

This visualization explains which country leads in daily vaccinations, Here we can see china outstands other countries

This visualization explains the vaccines used by the countries and also the total people vaccinated in the country with the vaccine

This visualization explain us the amount of people fully vaccinated, we can see that in india the amount of people fully vaccinated are high

This visualization explain us the amount of people total vaccinated, we can see that in china the amount of people vaccinated are high

The Final Dashboard :

Insights

• Countries like the United States, India, and Brazil led global vaccination numbers.

• Sputnik V was heavily used in Russia and Eastern Europe, while Pfizer and Moderna dominated in North America and Western Europe.

• Developed nations achieved higher full vaccination rates earlier due to better healthcare infrastructure and procurement capabilities.

• Some countries relied on a diverse mix of vaccines, while others primarily used a single manufacturer.

Recommendations

• Developing countries could benefit from improved logistics and cold chain infrastructure for vaccine distribution.

• Future health crises should prioritize early equitable vaccine access via global alliances.

• Monitoring manufacturer-level data helps governments assess efficacy, logistics, and public perception.

• Incorporating real-time data into dashboards can support ongoing decision-making by health agencies.

Conclusion

Power BI's data visualization capabilities provided a powerful lens to analyse the global COVID-19 vaccination rollout. The project uncovered vaccination patterns, highlighted disparities, and generated actionable recommendations to enhance future global health responses.
