Project 1 - COVID-19 Vaccinations Trend Analysis
Aim:
The goal is to analyze the Country Vaccination dataset to understand the global vaccination trends. This analysis will focus on summarizing key insights such as total vaccinations, doses per country, vaccinations by date, and trends across years using Power BI.
Introduction:
Vaccination is a critical process in the fight against pandemics such as COVID-19. This dataset contains information about vaccinations in different countries, providing an opportunity to analyze how countries responded to vaccination efforts.
We will leverage Power BI to visualize this data and draw meaningful insights on global vaccination progress.
Problem Statement:
The objective is to develop an analytical dashboard that shows:
- Total vaccinations worldwide and by country.
- The trend of vaccination over time.
- Countries leading in vaccination.
- Comparison of vaccines used by different countries.
Additionally, the goal is to ensure that the slicers and filters provide dynamic insights while keeping certain visuals unaffected.
Methodology:
Data Loading and Preprocessing:
- Load the Country_vaccination dataset into Power BI.
- Clean the dataset by removing any null or irrelevant values.
- Ensure the "Date" column is in the correct date format for time-based analysis.
Data Modeling:
- Create calculated columns or measures for insights such as:
- Total vaccinations
- Daily vaccinations
- Total vaccinations per country
- Create calculated columns or measures for insights such as:
Visualizations:
- Create Card visuals for the total vaccination count and daily vaccinations.
- Create Clustered Column Charts for vaccinations by country and year.
- Use Slicers for countries, years, and vaccines used.
Edit Interactions:
- Use the Edit Interactions feature to ensure the slicer (for years or countries) does not affect the cards displaying total vaccination counts.
Analysis:
Data Sheets (Key Metrics and Visuals):
- Total number of vaccinations.
- Vaccination count by country.
- Daily vaccination trends.
- Vaccinations by year (clustered column chart).
- Country-wise vaccination comparison.
Data Transformation:
- Measures:
Total Vaccinations = SUM([total_vaccinations]) - Date Extraction:
Year = YEAR([Date]) - Slicer based on
YearorCountry.
Insights:
- Certain countries are leading in vaccination counts, and the distribution is uneven across the globe.
- Vaccination rates peaked in certain months, reflecting global vaccine rollouts.
- Specific vaccines are used more frequently in certain regions, reflecting the geographic diversity of vaccine availability.
Recommendations:
- Countries with lower vaccination rates should focus on ramping up distribution, potentially by collaborating with countries that have an excess supply.
- International organizations should provide support to countries lagging behind in their vaccination campaigns to prevent future outbreaks.
- Vaccination trends should be closely monitored to ensure equitable distribution globally.
Conclusion:
This analysis provides a comprehensive look at global vaccination efforts. By using Power BI, we were able to visualize the vaccination trends, identify gaps in distribution, and make data-driven recommendations for improving global health outcomes.
Deliverables:
Power BI Report (.PBIX File):
- This will include all the visuals, cards, and slicers as described.
- You will need to apply the Edit Interactions to ensure certain visuals (like the total vaccination card) are not filtered by the slicers.
