Project 1 - COVID-19 Vaccinations Trend Analysis
Aim
To analyze the COVID-19 vaccination data for the year 2020-2022 and draw useful insights on vaccination trends in each country.
Introduction
COVID-19, also called coronavirus disease 2019, is an illness caused by a virus. The virus is called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or more commonly, SARS-CoV-2. It started spreading at the end of 2019 and became a pandemic disease in 2020.
The COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent serious illness, the need for hospital care due to COVID-19, and death from COVID-19.
The use of vaccines differed for each country, with the vaccination dataset we aim to find some useful insights that help us in the future in case of a similar virus outbreak.
Problem statement
In the dataset we have 86512 rows and 15 columns, the country column has the list of countries and the iso_code column has the iso code for each country. And we have columns on dates and different vaccines used all over the world.
Columns with people count on the number of people who got vaccinated, fully vaccinated, vaccinated per hundred, fully vaccinated per hundred, and columns like daily vaccinations, total vaccination, daily vaccinations per million, and total vaccination per hundred have the vaccinations available count for each country.
With the help of this dataset, we can find how many are vaccinated and fully vaccinated in different countries, what type of vaccinations are used, how many vaccinations are available daily, and total vaccinations for each country, and also per hundred basis of total vaccinations, people that got vaccinated and fully vaccinated.
Methodology
- The first step is cleaning the dataset, it is done with the help of the Transform option in Power BI.
- The measure type data in the dataset had null values which are replaced with 0.
- Then with the help of the Power BI desktop, we can start working on the visualization with different charts and graphs.
Analysis
· 84 vaccines were used in 223 countries during the COVID-19.
· In 2021 - 61% of total vaccines were distributed, 64% of people got their first dosage and 58% of people got fully vaccinated all over the world.
· 75% of people who got the first dosage also got their second dosage of vaccine.
· Out of the total vaccines, 36% of them used for the first dosage of vaccines, and 27% of them used for the second dosage of vaccines.
· Falkland Islands had received higher daily vaccinations than other countries followed by Saint Helena.
· 64% of people got vaccinated in the country Uruguay followed by 63% in Wales.
· 57% of people who got their first dosage also got their second dosage in the country Malta and similarly 56% of people in Uruguay.
· In Romania, only 10% got their first dosage but 24% got their second dosage, meaning the conversion rate of first dosage to second dosage is higher than in other countries similar to Portugal, UAE, and Bulgaria.
· In Luxembourg 45% got their first dosage but only 0.5% got their second dosage.
· Highest - Cuba had 177 vaccines for 100 people followed by Uruguay with 144, and Chile with 134.
· China had 105 vaccines for 100 people but only 3 got their first dosage on average, followed by UAE with 122 vaccines and only 24 got their first dosage on average.
· In Hungary only 18 vaccines are available for 100 people but 34% got their first dosage on average.
· Burundi had only 7 daily vaccines per million, 0.01 total vaccines for 100 people, and 0.01 got their first dosage out of 100.
· India had the highest number of people with fully vaccinated status, next places were the USA and China.
· China had the highest number of vaccines available followed by India and the USA.
· Daily vaccinations became available at higher numbers for most countries during July to September 2021.
· 2% of vaccines were used by Guernsey for the first dosage, similarly China 3%, Philippines 10%.
· 0.14% of vaccines left for Liberia after the first dosage, similarly Guinea-Bissau 6.5%, Benin 8%.
Insights
· China has a very low vaccination rate concerning total vaccinations received.
· Excess vaccinations (above 140%) were sent to Cuba, and Uruguay whereas 50 and below the percentage of vaccines were distributed to high-population countries like India and Russia.
· Uruguay received 144 vaccines for 100 people and used them effectively to rank top in vaccination status.
· In terms of reaching all corners of the country, the United Kingdom can provide the first and second dosage of vaccination to large numbers of people than India, China, and the USA.
· Luxembourg ranks lowest in the second dosage of vaccinations considering the first dosage population which stands at 45%.
· Countries like Liberia, and Benin ranked low in fully vaccinated status due to a shortage of vaccines.
· All African countries had deficient first dosage vaccination status below 17%.
· Most of the European countries ranked good in vaccination status.
· Except for New Zealand, most of the smaller islands and STAN countries in Central Asia ranked low in vaccination status.
Recommendations
· China should have increased the vaccination rate with more medical centers considering the availability of the vaccines.
· Proper production and distribution of vaccines should be planned based on the country's population.
· Uruguay's system of vaccination was more effective than all other countries in terms of first and second dosage, Cuba should implement this system.
· Luxembourg should have created more awareness in terms second dosage of vaccinations.
· More categories of data like state, region, and city can be collected which can help to further break down the analysis to find localized optimum solutions.
Conclusions
· Uruguay's system of vaccination should be followed by smaller-population countries and the United Kingdom's system of vaccination should be followed by higher-population countries for effective vaccination status.
· India ranks well among densely populated countries like China and Bangladesh where 35% got vaccinated and 20% got fully vaccinated, a total of 450M people were vaccinated, which is the largest sum among all the countries.
· Developed countries like the USA, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand ranked better in vaccinating a large percentage of the population.
· Conversion rate from vaccinated to fully vaccinated status is low for most of the countries mostly due to lack of vaccines.
· Excess vaccine distribution for example 140 vaccines for 100 people should be avoided which in turn should be utilized for countries like Liberia that lack vaccination.
