Project 1 - COVID-19 Vaccinations Trend Analysis
Aim
The aim of this study is to analyze the trend of Covid 19 vaccinations across 223 countries over the years, 2020 to 2022. With the onset of Covid-19 pandemic in the early 2020 the virus created a havoc with its deadly influence around the globe. This led to the production of vaccination to curb the influence of the virus. Thus, the study analyses the trend of vaccination, the type of vaccine effective in diminishing the virus and finding out what more can be done in order to minimize the effect of this pandemic around the world.
Introduction
Coronavirus disease otherwise known as COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. People infected with this virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment but some need special medical attention as it is fatal. The virus can spread easily, from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. The World Health Organization (WHO) approved vaccination for the prevention of Covid-19 across the world. It is important to analyze the Covid-19 vaccination data to understand what is the status of Covid-19 virus across the world after vaccination was delivered. The range of infected to protected individuals has to be accorded so that the influence of the vaccine can be investigated along with the eradication of Covid 19 pandemic worldwide.
Problem statement
The Covid 19 pandemic came out of nowhere causing a disaster that brought the world to a standstill in the early 2020. It spreads like fire causing great tragedy and thereby increasing the mortality rate. It took a great deal of time to find a prevention or cure for the disease. And towards the end of 2020, the scientists were successful in finding vaccination that can increase the immunity in a human being thereby decreasing the death toll. After getting the approval from WHO, different pharma companies Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and many more came produced vaccines. The effectiveness of the vaccine of different pharmaceutical companies across different countries is vital to be evaluated. It is required to comprehend the potency of the virus and thus its influence at present time. It is important to diminish the virus potency to have a healthy environment.
Methodology
The data contains the status of vaccinations given to individuals worldwide. The data was collected from various sources (included in the file) and collected in an Excel file. The file contains data from 223 countries, people who are vaccinated in each country, the type of vaccine given in figures of hundreds and millions from the late 2020 to the early 2022. The data also gives date wise daily vaccination in each country over the given period. The data extracted was then cleaned and loaded in Microsoft Power BI for further transformation and analysis to reach a conclusion and make a decision there upon.
Analysis (Data sheets pertaining to it)
It was found that out of 223 countries included in the study till now almost all the countries are fully vaccinated. India stands in the top as a fully vaccinated country with its 116 billion population being completely vaccinated followed by USA with around 67 billion vaccinated. Even though China is the most populated country it comes third in vaccinating its population entirely with only 35 billion people fully vaccinated in comparison to Brazil where 30 billion was vaccinated even though the population is not very high.
The average daily vaccination for all the country was found and it was deduced that China had maximum vaccinations per day as compared to other countries, followed by India, United States, Brazil and Indonesia.
It is found from the study that in 2021 around 464.70 billion people were vaccinated around the world as compared to the years 2020 and 2022.
Vaccines such as Abdala, Soberana plus, Covaxin, CanSino, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson are widely used vaccination around the world.
People have not been vaccinated in all the places, countries like Romania has around 6.24 thousand population which are still to be vaccinated. After Romania, Portugal’s 4.66 thousand population who are yet to be vaccinated as of now. Countries like UAE, Bulgaria, Finland follows the similar trend.
Insights
The fatality of the disease led to the making of the vaccine, and its approval vital as different pharmaceutical companies were involved in its making process. It was found that the vaccine of Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNtech as the most used vaccine throughout the world in 2021 with daily vaccination summing up to 74430135, it can be inferred that this is more effective vaccine in prevention of Covid-19 and could be made available to in large scale.. Across the 223 countries included in this data file people in India were fully vaccinated by 2022 followed by USA and China due to the availability of vaccine which was discovered around the end of 2020. In an average around 6.93 million people got vaccinated in China pertaining to its large population followed by India whose population is also rising and is the second most populated country, thus the vaccination in India on an average daily basis is 4.18 million and therefore India is one of the top countries which is fully vaccinated. Small economy countries like Romania, Philippines, Moldova, Zambia have population still to be vaccinated. The reason may be the economy is not too good to provide vaccination for all. One of the other reasons is the availability of vaccines as production of vaccines in comparison is demand was less. During Covid, all the business came into standstill so having growth in economy is near to impossible. Many countries also went into a debt situation whose monetary benefits came from tourism which are stalled, as there was a ban in travelling. The rate vaccination has grown which each year and the results in the near future seems to be positive.
Recommendations
The world as a whole is recovering from the shock of Covid-19. Since many countries are now vaccinated the power of the virus has thus diminished. But the availability of the vaccines is the foremost factor which has to be looked after so that all the population can be fully vaccinated. This initiative will help eradicate the impact of the virus. The countries having poor economy should work on the situation at hand and provide for the vaccination of its people. The rising health issues due to Covid can also be worked upon by providing good health facilities. WHO should be more alert on issues pertaining to Covid and thrive to provide good vaccinations at reasonable price for everyone in association with international organizations.
Conclusions
Covid-19 is a deadly disease which created a havoc around the world starting in the year 2020. The vaccination is the only solution to its eradication. People can not only depend on it but have to be careful with the use of mask and sanitizing themselves. Most of the countries are fully vaccinated and the highly populated countries are also included in this. One can be optimistic about the future regarding the disappearance of Covid-19 virus with the increase in daily vaccination around the world, people getting vaccinated and lesser health issues because of the lethal virus.
