Project 1 - Analyzing the Education trends in Tamilnadu
Summary of the Project: Analyzing Education Trends in Tamil Nadu – Women in STEM Fields
This project focuses on visualizing and analyzing gender disparities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) jobs in Tamil Nadu, with a particular emphasis on the underrepresentation of women. The dashboard highlights key trends in women’s education and employment in STEM fields and addresses significant gaps in career advancement, employment distribution, and salary inequality. The dataset includes information on women graduating from STEM fields, employment rates in STEM jobs by education level, and salary comparisons by gender and ethnicity.
The dashboard includes the following components:
1. Pie Graph – Represents women’s participation in specific STEM occupations such as Biological Scientists, Chemists & Materials Scientists, Computer & Mathematical Occupations, and Engineers & Architects.
2. Trend Graph – Displays the percentage of women graduating in Computer Science and Engineering from 2000 to 2015, followed by a textual interpretation of the trend.
3. Bar Graph – Shows the distribution of women in various STEM jobs based on their education levels, with a focus on women in health-related jobs holding Master’s and Doctoral degrees.
4. Cross Tab – Compares the percentage of men and women working in jobs related to their education in STEM fields, such as Computers and Engineering.
5. Salary Comparison – A graph that compares salaries of men and women across different ethnicities in STEM fields, followed by a discussion on gender pay disparity.
The project aims to address potential issues contributing to the gender gap in STEM, such as societal biases, lack of female role models, gendered educational pathways, and workplace challenges. The insights provided will help mission-driven organizations understand the root causes of these disparities and propose data-driven solutions to encourage more women to pursue and sustain careers in STEM fields.
