Challenge

Project 1 - 2D meshing on the instrumental Panel

Objective

Extract mid-surface and mesh instrumental panel (dashboard) with certain criteria.

Introduction

Instrument panel is control panel to control vehicle's operation which is located below the wind screen. Contemporary dashboards include the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, engine coolant temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, turn indicators, gearshift position indicator, seat belt warning light, parking-brake warning light, engine-malfunction lights, etc.

Geometry

CAD model for instrument panel.

Procedure

1) Geometry cleanup

Geometry cleanup is required before extracting mid-surface. Check`->`Geometry`->`Execute

2)Mid-Surfacing

Thickness of the model varies from part to part. So, OFFSET is used to extract mid-surface.

Mid-surface of each part should be connected by using Extend and Intersect.

3) Topo Cleanup

Measure distance between cons and hot points. Delete unnessery hot ponts and remove cons which doesn't satisfy minimum length criteria.

4) Meshing

Use Best or Spotmesh to mesh each part. Use mannual method to refine mesh using Split, Join, Swap, Smooth, Reconstruct etc.

Learning Outcomes:-

1. Learned to take mid-surface for non-uniform thick model

2. Learned to mesh the model

3.Learned to remove off element.

Conclusions:-

In this project, mid-surface have been generated and cons which does not satisfy the required criteria are defeatured. Then the model is meshed. We should try to remove off element as much as possible but off element at corner and sharp edges can be ignored.
