MODELLING OF DASHBOARD SUB PARTS USING ANSA:

AIM:

To Model the dashboard sub-parts using ANSA.

METHODOLOGY:

  • Geometry cleaning
  • Mid surface Extraction
  • Meshing

PROCEDURE:

  • Geometry cleaning:
  • Import the cad model into the ANSA 19.0.1
  • Initially, all the surfaces are not stitched together as you can see all the cons are in red colour.
  • Stitch all the surfaces together by using the topo option under faces module.
  • Check the geometrical errors by using the geometry check option.
  • All the errors are rectified by using both manual (mostly unchecked faces) and auto-fix option (triple cons).

Mid surface extraction:

  • Since the parent geometry is of uniform thickness throughout, the mid surface of it can be captured using the offset option.
  • After creating the mid surface, assign separate pid for it with the thickness value assigned.
  • The mid surface of all the features is captured by using the Middle curve option in the curves module.BY creating a middle curve between the surfaces, a new surface is formed by using a new option under the face module.
  • After creating the mid for the features assign separate pid with the thickness value assigned.
  • After taking the middle for the feature areas extend the surface to the bottom by using the extend option under the face module option.
  • After capturing all the features check whether all the mid surfaces are taken perfectly by putting the parent body in the transparency mode.
  • By enabling transparency mode you can find whether the Mid surface taken is exactly in the middle.

MESHING:

  • Meshing has to be done on the mid surface which was extracted.
  • Enter the quality criteria values in the quality parameters tab.
  • The first step before meshing is the rearrangement of construction lines in the model.
  • The rearrangement of the construction lines is needed in order to better capturing of all the features and better flow of mesh.
  • Initially check all the fillet areas whether it is satisfying the minimum element length criteria. If it is not satisfying the minimum element length, then take the middle by using dach option or by using the curve middle option.
  • In some areas, the fillet area tends to converge, and in a small portion, it won't satisfy the minimum element length criteria. In that area try to capture the whole fillet area, not taking the mid for that fillet.
  • After rearranging the constructions lines meshing has to be done.
  • Initially try to mesh each feature and then move towards the bottom surface.
  • The surfaces are constrained into small amounts by creating the straight cuts so that the mesh flow can be achieved in a better way.
  • In some areas, there will be off elements but it can be compromised with the better capturing of the feature.
  • The off elements and opposite trias and rotating quads can be eliminated by using commands like reconstruct, split, paste, swap options.
  • After meshing done using the draw shell as solid, visualize the mesh and put the parent geometry in the transparency mode to see whether all the surfaces and features are captured perfectly.

RESULT:

  • Thus, the given model is meshed according to the quality criteria after clearing all the geometrical errors.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Understand how to take mid for the difficult features in the dashboard parts.
  • Understand how to rearrange the construction lines in the model.
  • Understand how to mesh according to the given quality criteria.
