Problem Set-1b Week 11Challenge

1. From the given wheelbase and the Radius of turn, Ackermann angle is calculated.
(i) For 500ft - 0.961deg
(ii) For 200ft - 2.40deg
(iii) For 50ft - 9.60deg

2. From the given tabulations the front and rear Cornering stiffness are calculated.
Front cornering stiffness : 1032.62 N/deg
Rear cornering stiffness : 876.5228N/deg
The understerr gradient is calculated from the given front and rear weights and calculated front and rear cornering stiffness

k = 0.1542deg

3. Characteristic speed is calculated from the formula 2times the ackermann angle

u = 96.41m/s

4.Lateral acceleration gain at 60mph
With the given speed 26.8224m/s, lateral acceleration gain is calculated using speed and the understeer gradient additionally,

Lateral acceleration gain at 60mph - 0.4452g/deg

5.Yaw velocity gain at 60mph
By using the wheel base, given velocity the yaw velocity gain is calculated as 9.38(deg/sec)/deg

6. Slip angle is calculated by assuming the weight distribution for front and rear and for 800ft radius at 60mph the slip angle is around (-3.49deg) opposite direction of front wheel due to negative polarity.

7. The lower understeer gradient is observed is due the higher cornering stiffness at the rear and that reflection we may seen in slip angle too.
