Project Report

American Chopper

AIM:

  • To create a model and assembly parts of an “American Chopper”.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To sketch and model different parts of American Chopper in solidworks and to know about create model and different rendering options.

PROCEDURE:

Transmission belt:

  • It is generally used in cruisers where they offer noise-free, smooth transmission for long distance riding.
  • It comfort and smoothness is more important here as compared to performance or fuel efficiency, the belt drive system lends itself well to the application.

Tools used:

  • Fillet
  • Extrude

Kick Stand:

  • A kickstand is helps to support a motorcycle when it's parked so it doesn't tip over.
  • These kickstands allow you to position your motorcycle in a parking space and enable you to get on and off your motorcycle safely while it's stabilized.

Tools used:

  • Splain
  • Loft
  • Split
  • Extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Dome

Front Fender:

  • Front Fender is a part mounded on a fork wheel to protect the rider and the chopper of the parts from foreign particles.
  • The front fender really serves one purpose, to keep water, mud, etc. from spraying all over the motorcycle. The main purpose is to keep mud of the bike and not to fling water over the driver or the engine in case you go through water.

Tools used:

  • Sketch
  • Offset entities
  • Revolve
  • Dynamic mirror
  • Split

Oil Tank:

  • Oil tanks store fuel oil for heating systems on commercial and residential properties.

Tools used:

  • Surface extrude
  • Fillet
  • Shell
  • Extrude
  • Surface trim

Pedal:

  • Pedal is a external part attached to the chassis. The pedal is used to place the leg on top of that. It give the comfort to the rider.

Tools used:

  • Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Linear pattern
  • Dome
  • Chamfer

Chain:

  • It is used to convey power to the wheels of a vehicle.
  • It transmitting mechanical power one place to another place.
  • Chains are used for decoration to power transmission in heavy machinery. In industry, chain is a flexible series of interconnected rigid links or rings.

Tools used:

  • Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Curve driven pattern
  • Mirror

Front wheel:

  • The front tire experiences the greatest forces during braking.
  • Front wheel is attached to the front fork.
  • Front wheel has disc brake attached to it which a brake caliper attached.

Tools used:

  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Revolve
  • Circular pattern
  • Combine

Rear Wheel:

  • The rear tire is primarily used for acceleration and propelling the motorcycle forward.
  • Rear wheel has attached to the disc brake and chain sprocket.
  • The engine transmit the power to the rear wheel by transmission belt and chain.

Tools used:

  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Revolve
  • Circular pattern
  • Combine

Front Fork:

  • Front wheel is attached to the front fork.
  • The forks can be most easily understood as simply large hydraulic shock absorbers with internal coil springs.
  • They allow the front wheel to react to imperfections in the road while isolating the rest of the motorcycle from that motion.

Tools used:

  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Revolve
  • Dome
  • Combine
  • Sweep
  • Mirror

Engine:

  • It is used for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy or power to produce force and motion.

Tools used:

  • Boss extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular pattern
  • Dome
  • Chamfer
  • Mirror
  • Split

Chassis:

  • Chassis is a frame forms its skeleton.
  • All the components of a motorcycle, like the suspension, wheels, fuel tank, seats, handlebars etc, are attached to this base structure which lends a motorcycle its strength and ability to handle well.

Tools used:

  • Curve
  • Sweep
  • Extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Split
  • Combine
  • Mirror

Gas tank:

  • A gas tank ( petrol tank) is a safe container for flammable fluids.
  • Though any storage tank for fuel may be so called, the term is typically applied to part of an engine system in which the fuel is stored and propelled (fuel pump) or released (pressurized gas) into an engine.

Tools used:

  • Trim
  • Project curve
  • Sweep surface
  • Loft surface
  • Fill surface
  • Trim surface
  • Surface knit

Chopper assembly:

  • We have created different parts to create a American Chopper. And now the assembly part is done. Each part requires a different mate option.
  • So each parts got assembled by doing the following mate procedure.

Tools used:

  • Tangent mate
  • Mid plane mate
  • Coincident
  • Parallel
  • Perpendicular
  • Angel mate
  • Concentric
  • Mirroring of pedal

Rendering:

  • It is the process of generating an image from a model by means of computer software. Rendering is used in architecture, simulators, video games, films and television visual effects and design visualization.

Tools used:

  • Edit scene
  • Edit appearance
  • Edit decal
  • Integrated preview
  • Final render
  • Option
  • Camera
  • Light

Conclusion:

  • In these challenges I have learned a lot of things like
  • Sketch
  • Offset
  • Plane
  • Extrude boss
  • Fillet
  • Revolve
  • Projecting curves
  • Rendering
  • Different kinds of mates
  • Combining different material
  • Mirror
  • Sweep
  • Dome
  • Chamfer
  • This challenges are helped to improve my skills in solid works.
