Photo Realistic Rendering
American Chopper
Aim:
- To create and sketch each parts of a American Chopper and assemble all the parts using solidworks.
Objectives:
- To create the parts of an American Chopper and assemble them to get a chopper using solidworks and to know about different rendering options available in solidworks.
Procedure:
Transmission Belt:
- It is the medium to transmit power from the engine to the wheels.
Tools used:
- Fillet
- Extrude
Kick Stand:
- A swivelling metal bar for holding a chopper upright when it is not being driven.
Tools used:
- Splain
- Loft
- Split
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Dome
Front Fender:
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and others from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
Tools used:
- Splain
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Split
- Revolve
Rear Fender:
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and others from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
Tools used:
- Splain
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Split
- Revolve
Oil Tank:
- Its primary function is to store the oil for pumping it into the engine chamber.
Tools used:
- Splain
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Combine
- Shell
Pedal:
- A pedal in a vehicle is used to shift gears and apply brakes when necessary.
Tools used:
- Splain
- Extrude
- Extrude Cut
- Mirror
- Dome
- Chamfer
Chain:
- Chain drive is a way of transmitting mechanical power from one place to another.
- It is often used to convey power to the wheels of a vehicle.
Tools used:
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Curve driven pattern
- Mirror
Front Wheel:
- The front wheel is steer-able, which means that the power to be transmitted has to be at variable angles.
- As the steering can turn as much as 45 degrees in some 2 wheelers.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Circular Pattern
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Combine
Rear Wheel:
- The entire weight of the bike is on the rear wheel, and it's here that power is best applied.
- Weight transfer to the rear on acceleration improves rear wheel traction while reducing front wheel traction.
- So it makes more sense for the rear wheel to be driven.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Circular Pattern
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Combine
Front Fork:
- The forks can be most easily understood as simply large hydraulic shock absorbers with internal coil springs.
- They allow the front wheel to react to imperfections in the road while isolating the rest of the motorcycle from that motion.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Linear Pattern
- Dome
- Cut Revolve
- Fillet
- Combine
Engine:
- Motorcycle engine are typically two stocks or four stock internal combustion engine, but other engine type such as winkle’s and electric motor have been used in small number.
Tools used:
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Revolve
- Circular Pattern
- Dome
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Mirror
- Split
- Sweep
- Composite Curve
Chassis:
- A chassis serves as the basic foundation on which all the parts of a machine rest. In any two wheelers, the chassis acts as a skeleton on which the engine, gearbox, driveshaft, transmission, driveshaft, differential, and suspension are mounted.
Tools used:
- Curve
- Sweep
- Mirror
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Split
- Combine
- Mirror
Chopper Assembly:
- The parts of an chopper have been designed individually and combine together in a assembly.
- Each part requires a different mate option.
- So each parts got assembled by doing the following mate procedure.
Tools used:
- Mid plane mate
- Tangent mate
- Coincident
- Parallel
- Perpendicular
- Distance mate
- Angle mate
- Concentric
- Width mate
- Mating of planes
Rendering:
- Rendering is the process involved in the generation of a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image from a model by means of application programs.
- Rendering is mostly used in architectural designs, animated movies and simulations.
Tools used:
- Edit appearance
- Edit scene
- Edit decal
- Integrated preview
- Preview window
- Final render
- Option
- Schedule render
- Camera
- Light
Conclusion:
- During the construction of chopper, I have gained useful knowledge about many new features in solid works which helped me to complete the parts easily. Some new commands that I have learned were;
- Projecting curves
- Dome
- Spilit command
- Different kinds of mates
- Combine command
- Importance of reference planes
- Short cut keys and commands
- Overall I have improved my skill in solid works using these 7 challenges.
