Modelling a Pocket Knife

Modeling a Pocket Knife using Blender

In this project, I modeled a simple Pocket Knife using Blender 2.8.

Figure: 1 Modeling, Texturing and Rendering a Pocket Knife in Blender

Introduction

Blender is a fascinating 3D program that has grown immensely powerful. I have been a big fan of it for a long time. I never had much time to learn it till COVID19. I started Blender a few days back and here is my first render.

Steps Followed

  • Used a reference image
  • Sub-d modifier level 2
  • Used Boolean to cut-holes
  • Used Blender geometry add on to add the bolts

What can be improved?

  • Material selection - Blender "nodes" is quite intuitive. If you have used SIMULINK, you will get it instantaneously. But, I need more experience with it to get the right texturing
  • Lighting - I would rate mine 2/10. I don't even know how I can improve this.
  • Modeling - This is a fairly easy model to make as it primarily has only hard features. However, the key thing I want to improve is the efficient use of Sub-D mod.
