meshing of plastic container model
AIM : Mesh the following Model components by following the given quality criteria for meshing.
OBJECTIVE :
- Import the geometry model file provided.
- cleanup the geometrical errors of the parent geometry.
- Extract the midsurface out from the parent geometry.
- cleanup the geometrical errors from MIDSURFACE extracted , if present any.
- Mesh the following Midsurface with the quality criteria provided.
- check for the mesh elements and cleanup the element errors which are not following the quality criteria.
TOOLS :
- FROM GEOMETRY : SURFACES - to create the new surface for the geometry.
SURFACE EDIT - to edit the existing surfaces into new form.
DEFEATURE - to edit the features present in the geometry surfaces.
QUICK EDIT - to edit the geometrical errors and geometry features.
MIDSURFACE - to Extract the Midsurface out of the parent geometry.
NODE EDIT - for editing the nodes position. - FROM 2D : AUTO MESH - for meshing the following components.
REBUILD MESH - for remesh the existing meshed elements with quality criteria.
QUALITY INDEX - to check the mesh elements quality and cleanup the elements errors by using cleanup tools.
ELEM CLEANUP - for cleanup elements errors , which are not following the quality criteria.
SMOOTH - to reduce the iterations between the elements fro the better mesh flow of the elements.
EDIT ELEMENT - to create or split the existing elements.
REPLACE - to replace the nodes of the existing elements. - FROM TOOLS : MASK - to mask the particular surface / element for the working view.
TRANSLATE - to move the existing elements / surafce in a particular direction or in distance.
REFLECT - to reflect the replica of the existing element / surface by the axis direction.
PROJECT - to project the lines/ nodes to surface by the direction of the axis.
EDGES - to check for the edges connection between the components / elements.
PROCEDURE :
- Import the following geometry file provided in the hypermesh window.
- for that, we have to go to the "import" option. in which we have to select the type of the file which we are importing and then browse the location of the file.
- after importing the file to the hypermesh window, now we have to check for the solid surfces.
- delete the solid surfaces present in the parent geometry.
- change the view from "wireframe mode" to "shaded geometry" for the better understanding view of the geometry model.
- cleanup the geometrical issues present in the parent geometry with the help of "geometry tools ".
- "extract" the midsurface out from the parent geometry, by using the "midsurface tool".
- NOTE : here in the model we are facing issues with the "automidsurface" for capturing the features of parent geometry clearly.
- we are extracting the "midsurface" by using "offset" and "final edit tools" (midsurface) from geometry.
- after extracting the midsurface from the parent geometry, check for the geometrical errors present in the "midsurface" extracted.
- cleanup the geometrical issues from the midsurafce.
- after cleanup the geometrical issues from the "midsurface" , now we have to work on the midsurface for meshing but as we can see that the geometry model is complex and hard to work on entire model at a time.
- for that we have divided the geometry model into small componets , which helps in working easily on the details and reduce the time and effort.
- by using "trim with planes" we are divided the model into small components and assign components card to it.
- after assigning the cards check for the component surfaces are assigned properly as per the required card.
- now we proceed for meshing the components individually.for that we use here "automesh" tool.
- as per the quality criteria provided , we submitted "target elem size =5 " in the automesh option.
- after creating the meshing elements check for the quality criteria is followed by the elements or not.
- cleanup the elements errors which are not following the quality crietria as per the given data.
- by using "elem cleanup tools" we are correcting the elements errors.
- follow the same procedure for the remaining components individually.
NOTE :
- use "reflect" option for mirroring the replica of the elements formed in the symmetrical surfaces present in the model carefully, it reduces the time and effort of the user.
- as you can see the the "elemnts" are "failing" for the "quality criteria" provided to us , due to the complex design of the surfaces and the features present in the model are not satisfying the mesh capture in critical areas.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION :
The given task of Midsurface extraction and meshing the following model is done. we also followed the quality criteria as per the given data.
the elements are "failing" for the "quality criteria" for "small element size" as per the quality criteria provided is due to the mesh captured in the critical and features areas of the model components is small in dimensions.as we have have to cover the features provided in the geometry we are ignoring that element errors for now.
the model file is saved and share through the link given below for the further process and reference :
