Mesh The Plastic Model By Following Quality Criteria
AIM : Mesh the following model components by following the quality criteria provided.
OBJECTIVE :
- Import the geometry file provided for the challenge.
- Cleanup the geometrical errors and extract the midsurface out of it.
- Cleanup the geometrical errors of the MIDSURFACE extracted , if present any.
- Mesh the following components of the model as per the target element length provided.
- check for the elements which are not following the quality criteria provided and correct it.
PROCEDURE :
- Import the geometry file provided, for that we have to go to import option and select the file type and then browse the location of the file and select import.(in this case the file type is .solidworks).
- after importing the geometry check for the solid surfaces and then delete it.
- after that we check for the thickness between the surfaces, which is very low as per the quality criteria provided.
- we increase the scale factor of the geometry file so that it will fullfill the quality criteria provided.(in this case we increase the scale factor to "1000" ).
- NOTE : always check for the thickness between the surfaces when you import the geometry file.
- after deleting the solid surfaces from the imported geometry file now, we proceed for the geometry cleanup of the model components.
- after the geometry cleanup, we have to extract the midsurface out from the geometry model.
- for that we used here "auto midsurface" , after that we check for the midsurface extracted properly.
- there are some surfaces were "auto midsurface" unable to extract midsurface properly, there we manually take out "midsurface" by using "offset" and "final edit tools" option.
- after the extarction of the midsurface , now we proceed for cleanup geometrical issues in the midsurface extracted.
- In the below images you can see the following procedure:
- after the cleanup of the geometrical issues in the midsurface, now we proceed for "MESHING" the midsurface.
- for that we used the "automesh" from "2d" option, in which we submited the target element length of "5mm" as per the quality criteria provided.
- after meshing the surfaces , now we have to check for the quality criteria followed by the elements created in meshing.
- as per the quality criteria provided to us , we enter the values in the criteria file and check for the elements quality.
- cleanup the elements errors which are not following the quality criteria , by using the "elem cleanup tools" from "2d".
- after cleanup the elements , we use "smooth" option on the elements to reduce the "iterations" and maintain the mesh flow properly between elements.
- In the below images you can see the following procedure we followed :
RESULT :
The given task of meshing the following model by following the quality criteria provided is complete. we extracted the mid surface for the parent geometry and also maintain the mesh flow by following the quality criteria provided.
the meshed model file is saved and shared through the link below for the further process and references :
