MBD SIMULATION ON PISTON ASSEMBLY USING SOLIDWORKS

AIM: Modelling & Assembly of Piston assembly in Solidworks and Motion Analysis of the assembly for three different conditions.

OBJECTIVE:

1) Modeling & Assembly of Piston Assembly in Solidworks.

2) Motion analysis for the 3 different conditions of offset of wrist pin in following manner:

i) 0 mm Offset

ii) 10 mm Positive Offset

iii) 10 mm Negative Offset

3) Plotting of Graphs, Exporting the data in excel CSV file and make that plots there.

4) Superimpose all the graphs in single graph for the comparison purpose.

Piston Assembly:

> The Piston Assembly consist of five major parts including Piston, Connectiong rod, End Cap, Wrist pin, Crank.

> The whole assembly reciprocates inside the cylinder of the I.C. engine to conevert reciprocating motion of connecting rod into rotary motion of crank shaft to obtain power and run any machine.

> In this Project the analysis is done for the crank shaft rotation for the speed of 2000 RPM with the Precise contact and the 7200 frames per seconds in each condition.

STEPS:

1) Modeling & Assembly with given dimensions and suitable mates.

2) Motion analysis done by selecting motor shaft as the center shaft of the crank and the RPM is 2000.

3) Give Solid contacts beetween all parts and gravity is enabled for the Y-axis in the downward direction.

4) Repeat this process for all the three conditions.

5) Obtain plots of Linear Displacement VS time for each conditions.

6) Combine all graphs in a single plot to compare the results.

CONDITION 1:

> In this condition the wrist pin is in center with the piston and there is 0 mm offset beetween them. The Diagram is given below.

CONDITION 2:

> In this condition the wrist pin is at distance in left side with the piston and there is 10 mm offset beetween them. Termed as Positive offset. The Diagram is given below.

CONDITION 3:

> In this condition the wrist pin is at distance in right side with the piston and there is 10 mm offset beetween them. Termed as Negative offset. The Diagram is given below.

RESULT:

> The Combine Graph obtained from the motion analysis for the different 3 conditions is shown in the following image.

CONCLUSION:

> From the Graph it is clear that starting from the left direction as near as the wrist pin is situated the displacement is advances early for the linear motion of piston.

> Piston with wrist pin of 10 mm positive offset have the early reciprocating motion while for 0 mm offset & 10 mm Negative offset conditions the motion is likewise taking after the previous one.

> The Linear Displacement graph of third condition is somewhat irregular when the piston goes in downward direction.
