MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
AIM:
To design the parts of piston assembly setup and to perform the motion study analysis at different conditions.
Components in the assembly:
- Piston
- conneccting rod
- gudgeon pin
- crank
Assembled part:
Process Explanation:
This motion analysis is a piston setup with connecting rod, crank and gudgeon pin. This is the stimulation of the engine running at 2000 rpm. As the crank rotates the connecting rod connects with the crank pin is also gets rotates. Connecting rod transmits the rotatry motion of the crank into the linear motion of the piston where the connecting rod and the piston gets connected with the gudgeon pin.
Results of motion analysis:
| Sl.No |
Wrist Pin Offset ` |
Crank Speed (Rpm) |
| 1 | "0" mm | 2000 |
| 2 | 10 mm Positive | 2000 |
| 3 | 10 mm Negative | 2000 |
case i:
The gudgeon pin is at 0mm offset to crank plane and the crank rotates at 2000 rpm. The obtained linear displacement plot is,
case ii:
Gudgeon pin has 10 mm positive offset with the crank plane.
Plot obtained for linear displacemnt of the piston
case iii:
10 mm negative offset
From the superimposed graph the following values are obtained:
- 0 mm offset : 2.1988E+02
- 10mm positive : 2.2407E+02
- 10mm negative : 2.2789E+02
- Liner displacement of piston increased at three different cases.
