MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
Aim:
To Model all the parts and then assemble them in SolidWorks. The motion analysis is going to be carried out in three different conditions,
| Sl.No |
Wrist Pin Offset ` |
Crank Speed (Rpm) |
| 1 | "0" mm | 2000 |
| 2 | 10 mm Positive | 2000 |
| 3 | 10 mm Negative | 2000 |
Description:
Piston:
A piston is a moving disk enclosed in a cylinder which is made gas-tight by piston rings. The disk moves inside the cylinder as a liquid or gas inside the cylinder expands and contracts.
Crankshaft:
A crankshaft is a rotating shaft that converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. Crankshafts are commonly used in internal combustion
Connecting Rod:
A connecting rod, also called a con rod, is the part of a piston engine that connects the piston to the crankshaft. Together with the crank, the connecting rod converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotation of the crankshaft.
Endcap:
A rod cap is the removable section of a two-piece connecting rod that provides a bearing surface for the crankpin journal.
Wrist pin:
A wrist pin is a pin through the skirt of a piston in an internal-combustion engine, to which the little end of the connecting rod is attached. The bearing at the other end of the connecting rod is known as the little end and holds the wrist pin that is mounted in the piston.
Piston Assembly:
A piston is a component of reciprocating engines, reciprocating pumps, gas compressors and pneumatic cylinders, among other similar mechanisms. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft via a piston rod and/or connecting rod.
Motion Specification:
1)Speed of rotation of the crank = 2000rpm
2)The wrist pin must be positioned as follows with respect to the plane of the axis of rotation of the crank.
3)Precise contact is enabled.
4)The crank is rotated for 1minute in the clockwise direction.
5)The frames per second are 12000.
6)"Contact" is enabled with Steel(dry) contact to every pair of contacts.
7)Gravity is enabled in the Y direction.
