MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
AIM:- TO PERFORM MBD SIMULATION ON A PISTON ASSEMBLY OF IC ENGINE USING SOLIDWORK
INTRODUCTION
Piston motion analysis is study of the reciprocating motion of the piston in the cylinders and the motion of the assembly attached i.e. connecting rod, end cap, crankshaft gudgeon pin or wrist pin.
THE PARTS REQUIRED FOR THE ASSEMBLY ARE AS FOLLOWS
- PISTON :- It is the moving component that is contained by a cylinder and is made gas tight by the piston rings.

2. GUDGEON PIN :- In internal combustion engines, the gudgen pin connects the piston to the connecting rod and provides a bearing for the connecting rod to pivot upon as the piston moves.

3. CONNECTING ROD:- A connecting rod is a rigid member which connects a piston to a crank or crank shaft in reciprocating engine.
3D model of CONNECTING ROD
4. END CAP:- End cap is connected to the end of the connecting rod, which is assemble crank
3D model of END CAP
CRANK SHAFT:- Crank is a mechanical pat able to convert the reciprocating motion from the piston into rotational motion

Final aasembly
The piston , connecting rod wrist pin, end cap and the crank are assembled as shown below.
In the Motion study the following steps are performed.
- select the motion analysis
- Motor rotation is given to the crank at the speed of 2000 rpm
- Frames per second are given as 7000 with precise contact.
- Gravity in the Y direction
There are 3 cases to perform MBD on piston
