Internal Geneva Mechanism
AIM: -
To create a 3D model of internal Geneva mechanism and plot variation of force with time .
OBJECTIVE: -
Our objective is to create a 3D model of internal Geneva mechanism in solidwork plot the following from result.
- Variation of angular velocity with time.
- Angular displacement with time.
- Variation of force with and without precise contact with time.
BODY: -
First we have created 2D sketch of driver and driven component according to the sketch provided in the challenge. After this we have extruded the sketch to generate 3D model.
Then we have assembled both part by providing some restraints while mating.
Now we will use solidworks motion study to simulate the motion analysis of the driver and driven assembly. For this we have provided angular speed of 10RPM and 20 RPM by providing a motor at center-axis of driver and to transmit the motion to driven contact we have provided the contact between both the components. While providing the contact we can also specify the material of both driver and driven component , here we have taken steel for both driver and driven component.
After this we have calculated and generated the motion. From result we have got, we can plot the variation of different type of forces for different type of contact.
Here we have used the generated data to plot the curve of variation of forces with time for precise contact and also for without precise contact.
Following are the results:-
FOR 10RPM and 6oFPS:-
- With Precise contact
- Without precise contact
FOR 20 RPM and 120 FPS:-
- With Precise contact
- Without precise contact
From the conparision of the cases we can see that the contact force with "precise contact" option on is quiet high than the forces without precise contact, which can be seen from the graph.
Now similarly, we will set 10 RPM and 6o frames and plot the angular velocity and Angular displacement and then increase the rotation by 20RPM and 120 frames and plot both the grapph again.
Following are the results:-
- 10 RPM & 60 FPS:
- 20 RPM & 120 FPS:
Angular displacement:-
- 10 RPM & 60 FPS:
- 20 RPM & 120 FPS:
CONCLUSION: -
From the above analysis we come a conclusion that the contact force increases with activation of precise contact option, the magnitude of the force nearly doubles after this action or more accurate results are obtained.
And when we change the RPM we see that when the RPM is 10 the angular velocity remains constant with respect to time and as we increase the RPM to 20 the angular the velocity increases with respect to time.
