Hood design-Week 2

Design Explanation

  • NX Cad Design start from given Class A outer pannel surface
  • Initially start design of hood inner pannel using given master section
  • Hood inner pannel consist of hinger ,striker locking positions, reinforcement structures and emboss.
  • Offset cure in face, offset surface, trim and extend, law extension, projected curve, face blend, trim sheet, mirror geometry, sew and thicken tools are mostly used design in NX CAD .

Hood Inner Pannel

  • Same us to create hood outer pannel .

Hood Outer Pannel

Hood Assembly

  • Assembly workbench used to assemble the hood inner pannel, outer pannel,Latch striker and hinger components.
  • Move components, constraints(touch, rotate, translate) tools are used to Assemble the process

Reinforment Structure

Hood

  • The hood or bonnet is the hinged cover over the engine of cars.
  • Hoods can open to allow access to the engine compartment for maintenance and repair.
  • The hood consist of Outer pannel, inner pannel, striker, mastic and hinger components.

Latch Trajectory

  • Its is used for lock the hood with another pannel.
  • Its weld inner pannel bottom side of the hood.
  • Common using U shape.

Hemming Process: -

  • Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are folded or folded over another part in order to achieve a tight fit.
  • Normally hemming operations are used to connect parts together, to improve the appearance of a part and to reinforce part edges.
  • Two types of hemming process

1. Conventional die hemming

2. Roll Hemming

Emboss

  • Emboss has been given to create extra strength in inner panel and embosses design needs to be inspired by force dissipation.

Mastic Points-

  • Mastic point are areas where the inner hood panel is joined with the outer panel hem using a mastic glue. This mastic glue keeps the inner panel stuck to the outer panel.
  • The main purpose of the outer panel is for the aesthetic look. Thus, we cannot use bolt or welding.
  • This has to be done with the helps of the hemming and mastic sealants.
  • Mastic sealants are elastic compound that behaves like rubber.
  • It is placed between the outer and inner panel.
  • Initially is it in paste form but after the hot furnace bath it gets hardened thus joining the outer and inner panel.
