Frequency Analysis of a rotating shaft

Aim:

To find out the critical frequencies of a rotating shaft in Solidworks. You will have to create the model in Solidworks according to the dimensions that you see fit.

Description:

Frequency:

Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit of time. It is also referred to as temporal frequency, which emphasizes the contrast to spatial frequency and angular frequency. Frequency is measured in units of hertz (Hz) which is equal to one occurrence of a repeating event per second.

Resonance frequency:

a Resonant frequency is a natural Frequency of vibration determined by the physical parameters of the vibrating object.

Frequency analysis:

Frequency analysis is the study of the distribution of the letters in a text. Analysis of frequencies help decrypting substitution-based ciphers using the fact that some letters apparitions are varying in a given language

Amplitude:

The maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.

Material properties:

Material =alloy steel

Elastic Modulus ------------------------>2.1e+11 N/m^2
Poisson's Ratio ------------------------>0.28 N/A
Shear Modulus ------------------------>7.9e+10 N/m^2
Mass Density -------------------------->7700 kg/m^3
Tensile Strength ---------------------->723825600 N/m^2
Yield Strength ------------------------>620422000 N/m^2
Thermal Expansion Coefficient ----->1.3e-05 /K
Thermal Conductivity ---------------->50 W/(m·K)
Specific Heat -------------------------->460 J/(kg·K)

mass Properties:

Mass: 1409 grams

Volume: 1409004 m^3

surface area: 111840 m^2

Frequency analysis:

Mesh:

Procedure:

  1. First model the design using solid works.
  2. Then open the simulation in solid works.
  3. Proceed and enter the Frequency analysis.
  4. Apply the material as alloy steel.
  5. fix the edges of the model by using the bearing fixture.
  6. Then mesh the object to a size as fine or coarse.
  7. Run the simulation, report the frequency values in the Resonant parameters tool

Then five amplitude values as five cases:

case 1:

Case 2:

Case 3:

Case 4:

Case 5:

Frequency table:

The time period has become so long because the mash size is so small so it takes more time to run the simulation.

Result:

Thus the required analysis nave been performed and the results are obtained and values are better.
