Frequency Analysis of a rotating shaft

Aim:To perform frequency analysis of a rotating shaft.

Introduction:

Frequency response analysis in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to calculate the steady-state response due to a sinusoidal load applied to a structure at a single frequency. It is a specialized type of transient response analysis that is extremely efficient to solve a very specific type of model.A frequency response analysis is performed to determine the steady state vibration for a range of frequencies, one at a time. It can be used for structures which operate continuously at a single speed or those which change speed slowly enough so that steady state is maintained. It can also be used for those that operate in a random-vibration environment where the vibration spectrum stays constant.

Problem Statement:To create a model of rotating shaft using SOLIDWORKS and then do the frequency analysis on it.

Hint: Conduct a frequency analysis and apply a bearing fixture on the stepped face of the rod at the two ends and perform the analysis.

Find out 5 mode shapes and list the resonant frequencies.

Frequency Analysis:

1.Model created using SOLIDWORKS 2018 and the unit system is 'MMGS'.The material of the model is ALLOY Steel.

2.Now the bearing fixture is applied on both the stepped end of the shaft.

3.After that meshing is done and default mesh is choosen.

4.Finally run the analysis and the results are obtained.

Procedure:1.First of all the model is created using SOLIDWORKS.

2.Then in the new study frequency analysis is choosen.

3.Bearing fixture is provided at both the stepped end of the shaft.

4.Meshing is done by default mesh is choosen.

5.Finally the analysis is done and the results are obtained.

Result: Amplitude@mode1

Amplitude@mode 2

Amplitude@mode3

Amplitude@mode 4

Amplitude@mode5
