Flow over Bicycle Matlab
AIM :- Write a Matlab program to calculate drag force against a cyclist with involved factors are Velocity , Drag coefficient, Frontal Area, Density of air.
DESCRIPTION: - The force on an object that resists its motion through a fluid is called drag . When the fluid is a gas like air, it is called aerodynamic drag or air resistance .
Increase in the cycling velocity will tend to experience a drag force for cyclists. For reducing the drag force the cyclist change their riding position often. The change in their cycling position also changes the frontal area. Thus there will be reduced drag experienced by the cyclists.
GOVERNING EQUATIONS:-
F_d=C_d*A*ρ*V^2/2
Where,
Fd">FdFd = Drag force
Cd">CdCd= Coefficient of Drag of force
A = Frontal Area
rho= Density of air
V = Flow Velocity relative to object
PROGRAM :- For Drag force vs velocity
close all (to clear the command which is use in past)
clear all (to close all the plot)
clc (to clear previous data)
%defining the parameters of system
%drag_cofficent
c_d = 1.2
%velocity
v = [1:20];
%density
rho = 2;
%frontal area
A = 2;
%Drag force formula
Drag_force = rho*A*v.^2*c_d*0.5
%unit of drag force = kg*m/sec^2
plot(v,drag_force)
xlabel('velocity')
ylabel('drag_force')
grid on

Program 2:
%%Calculating flow over Bicycle and Ploting different parameters
close all (to clear the command which is use in past)
clear all (to close all the plot)
clc (to clear previous data)
%defining the parameters of system
%drag_cofficent
c_d = [1:20];
%velocity
v = 2;
%density
rho = 2;
%frontal area
A = 2;
%Drag froce formula
drag_force = rho*A*v.^2*c_d*0.5
plot(c_d,drag_force)
xlabel('c_d')
ylabel('drag_force')
grid on
Result:- We successfully calculate drag force with different plots of different parameters.
