Flow over an airfoil
AIM: To simulate fluid motion over the Naca aerofoil at different angle of attack.
Objective:
- To have an insight of the aerofoil testing using solidworks software.
Given Data:
The curve used for the aerofoil is provided by the skill-lync.
Modelling an Aerofoil:
- To do fluid flow over the aerofoil, initially I have inserted the curve using insert option.
- Then I have started sketching in the front plane
- I have converted the curve into sketch using convert entites tool.
- Then I have jointed the end points of the curve
- Then I have extruded the curve up-to a certain point.
- Here, we have completed the modelling of the aerofoil.
- Then I have saved the part.
Flow Simulation:
- To do flow simulation, I have started the wizard.
- Then I have given the external flow, then I have given total output time equals to 10 seconds & steps equals to 1 second in total time dependency.
- After that I have changed the input domain & change the 3D to 2D analysis at XY plane.
- I have increased the boundaries in both directions of X and Y axis simultaneously.
- Then I have inserted Global Goals, I have inserted Force in X & Y and Friction Force in X & Y direction.
- Similarly, I have inserted Surface Goals, I have inserted Force in X & Y direction at the top surface.
- Then, I have clicked on Run to start simulation.
Case-1: When the Angle of attack = 0 degree
- Here, I have not change the angle of the curve after completing the sketch of the curve.
- I have simply extruded it & run simulation.
